starring John Boyega, Jamie Foxx, Teyonah Parris
directed by Juel Taylor
Drug dealer Fontaine (John Boyega) gets shot and killed while trying to collect money from Slick Charles (Jamie Foxx), a pimp who owes him money. Fontaine gets killed that night by Isaac, a rival drug dealer, but Fontaine wakes up the next morning with no memory of what happened.
Slick Charles and Yo-Yo (Teyonah Parris), who works for Charles but is looking to get out of town and build herself a better life, work with Fontaine to put the pieces together. What they find are secret laboratories, fried chicken laced with mind control drugs, hypnotic songs, and hair products that are also being used to control people.
Fontaine, Slick Charles, and Yo-Yo start to get the bottom of what is going on only to discover how little they really know about what is going on in their neighborhood.
Thoughts
Kiefer Sutherland and David Alan Grier were also in this movie.
There are some things about this story that don't quite add up, but I'm willing to give it a pass because it was a fun ride. That doesn't mean that it's great, just that I enjoyed watching it.
