Blood Oath
Three Klingons come to Deep Space Nine, old friends of Dax, Curzon Dax. Together Kor , Koloth, and Kang (along with Curzon) swore a blood oath to get vengeance on the Albino, a criminal who killed the sons of the three Klingons. Curzon was the godfather to Kang's son who was named Dax in his honor.
The Klingons have some doubts about Jadzia Dax accompanying them on this mission. She proves herself to them while sparring with Koloth in a holo-suite. Together the four friends use their skills and the intelligence they have gathered to complete their mission although is costs two of them their lives.
Chief O'Brien, Doctor Bashir, and Jake Sisko did not appear in this episode. The actors who played the three Klingons all played Klingons in episodes of Star Trek (1966). If I was aware of this fact prior to watching this episode then I had forgotten it.
This episode was a bit by the numbers but it was well produced, the acting was superior, and the guest stars really connected with Jadzia Dax. It had weight. The stakes felt real. It didn't feel out of place for Dax to be reunited with former comrades.
Notes
John Colicos played the part of Kor. This is the first of three episodes of this show in which he appeared. He appeared in one episode of Star Trek (1966), 1.26 Errand of Mercy, in which he also played Kor.
William Campbell played the part of Koloth. This is the only episode of this show in which he appeared. He appeared in two episodes of Star Trek (1966), the first of which was 1.17 The Squire of Gothos.
Michael Ansara played the part of Kang. This is the first of two episodes of this show in which he appeared. I saw him most recently in an episode of Alfred Hitchcock Presents, 1.18 Shopping for Death. He also appeared in one episode each of Star Trek (1966) and Voyager.
Bill Bolender played the part of The Albino. This is his only appearance in an episode of this show. He has been in a few movies I have watched but none that I have watched recently.
Peter Allan Fields wrote this episode. It is the seventh of 11 episodes of this show that he had a hand in writing. He also wrote episodes of The Next Generation, including 4.22 Half a Life.
Winrich Kolbe directed this episode. It is the seventh of 13 episodes of this show that he directed. The previous one he directed was 2.13 Armageddon Game.
