Kole

The Teen Titans find Doctor Light in the Arctic Circle harnessing the power of the Northern Lights. They fight with the supervillain who is considerably more powerful than when they last battled him. The ice on which Doctor Light and the Teen Titans are standing breaks. They crash through the ice and wind up in a world where it is considerably warmer than expected.

The Teen Titans lose track of Doctor Light. Carnivorous dinosaurs try to eat them. The dinosaurs seem to have the upper hand when two people, Kole and Gnarrk, join the fight, and help the Teen Titans drive away the dinosaurs.

Kole and Gnarrk take the Teen Titans back to their home and feed them. Doctor Light witnessed the fight with the dinosaurs. He kidnaps Kole and heads back to the surface world. He uses Kole in her crystalline form in his machine to make him much more powerful. The Teen Titans and Gnarrk team up, rescue Kole, and then destroy Doctor Light's machine.

The episode ends with Robin giving Kole a Teen Tians communicator. She doesn't think she will need it but as she is saying that an image of the Brotherhood of Evil appears on the screen.

Thoughts

Was the land beneath the ice supposed to be Skartaris? It certainly seems like it but they never gave that world a name.

This was an okay episode. It was nice to see them work in a couple more characters from Teen Titans  comic books. The story itself wasn't anything special. There were no interesting plot twists or character moments in this episode.

Notes

This is the third significant appearance of Doctor Light in Teen Titans. He was also seen in 1.06 Nevermore and 4.03 Birthmark. Doctor Light first appeared in Justice League of America 12 (Jun 1963). I think that he first encountered the Teen Titans in Teen Titans (1966) 44 (Nov 1976). He formed the Fearsome Five in New Teen Titans (1980) 3, (Jan 1981), his first appearance in that series. A few years after Crisis on Infinite Earths he was a member of the Suicide Squad for a time.

This is the first episode in which Kole and Gnarrk have appeared. They both made their first appearances in Teen Titans comic books but there was no association between them in the comic books.

Gnarrk first appeared in Teen Titans (1966) 32 (Apr 1971). He was a member of the Teen Titans. He appeared in six issues of that run of Teen Titans, the last of which was Teen Titans (1966) 52 (Dec 1977).

Kole first appeared in New Teen Titans (1984) 9 (Jun 1985). She was killed less than a year later in Crisis on Infinite Earths 12 (Mar 1986). She appeared in New Teen Titans (1984) 9-14 and Crisis on Infinite Earths 3-12 during that brief period.
