The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975)

Brad and Janet get engaged and go on a trip. They get a flat tire on a cold and rainy night. They walk through the rain to an old house. They just want to use the telephone but there are weird things going on in the house.

Thoughts

This was my first time watching the movie. I think I first heard about it in the mid-1980s. They used to show it at midnight on the weekends, IIRC. I'm not sure that I would have gotten any more out of it if I had seen it 30-35 years ago.

I didn't know what it was about but I was familiar with the Time Warp song. I wasn't terribly impressed with the movie. I think that it might be the sort of movie that grows on you with age and repeat viewings but I don't have any plans to watch it again. It also might help to be a little high or drunk while watching it.

I preferred the more energetic musical numbers. There wasn't any particular performance by any of the actors that stood out. The ending was like the rest of the movie, kind of strange.

Call My Agent 1.02

Line et Françoise 

The principal partners at ASK deal with the aftermath of Samuel's death. Françoise Fabian, one of Samuel's clients, wants to back out of a movie that she is supposed to start shooting in three weeks. Andrea takes responsibility for trying to talk Françoise back in to doing the movie. Gabriel meets with Line Renaud, another actress of about the same age, and offers the role to her, without clearing it with the director.

Samuel's widow wants to sell her husband's controlling interest in the company. Mathias suggests that he and the other partners could buy it from her. Mathias is considerably richer than the others who have to scramble to find the money.

I believe this commentary track was recorded in 2008. Cohen talks about the show in general and doesn't talk specifically about this episode very much although he does say that it was one of his favorite episodes.

Cohen talks about some of his other work in television and movies. He talks about how he got started as a writer for television. He worked on and wrote 9 episodes of The Defenders from 1963-65. He wrote two episode of The Fugitive (Escape into Black and Scapegoat) in 1964-65. 

The first show he sold was Branded, which starred Chuck Connors. It ran for two seasons (1965-66). Cohen talks about how in his mind Branded was about a blacklisted cowboy. His take on the show was influenced by the blacklists which determined who could and could not work in television and movies. He learned while the show was in production that Connors didn't share his feelings about the blacklist. He found himself less involved in the writing of the show in the second season.

Freaks and Geeks 1.13

Chokin' and Tokin'

Nick is obsessed with getting high. Lindsay doesn't like what it does to him. She calls him out for it. He gives her his weed to prove that he can go without getting high.

Bill develops a crush on Miss Foot, one of the teachers. He tells the whole class while he is flirting with her that he is allergic to peanuts. Alan doesn't believe him and thinks he's just saying it to get attention from the teacher. Alan putts some peanuts in Bill's sandwich when he isn't looking. Bill has to get rushed to the hospital.

Daniel and Ken get caught with a bag of pot by Mr. Rosso. He thinks they are pot heads. He says he could get them expelled but instead he just tells and shows them the evils of getting high too much.

Director David Maloney passed away before this documentary was made but there is some footage from an interview with him done in 2003. All of the actors get several opportunities to talk about their experiences. They touch briefly on the fact that Li-H'sen Chang was played by a British actor. It was great to see Jago and Litefoot once again, years later.

This was a fun watch. Worth a look especially if you enjoyed The Talons of Weng Chiang. 

Knights of Sidonia 2.09

Duty

Tanikaze and Izana investigate Senshukyo. She is convinced that he brought her to get her alone, away from the others. He still believes the directions he received from Yure Shinatose and sticks to the plan. The instructions call for them to spend the night there together. Izana takes a look at the instructions and realize that her grandmother is behind it all and gets angry.

Yuhata and Tsumugi spy on Tanikaze and Izana from a distance. Yuhata has no problem with doing so but Tsumugi feels a bit guilty about it.

A mission is sent to investigate Planet 9 of the Lem system. Izana is sent as part of the 5 person squad but Tanikaze is not. Everything goes well until it doesn't. The recon squad discovers a giant new gauna. One of them is killed and the others are in danger as the episode ends.

Atypical 4.01

Magical Bird #1

Sam and Zahid move into their new apartment. They have to get used to living together. Both of them do things that annoy the other. Paige suggests to Sam that they need some rules. That doesn't work so well, at first.

Casey still hasn't told Doug, her father, that she kissed Izzy. She and Izzy go to a Gay Student Alliance meeting. Casey eventually tells her father that she's not getting back together with Evan because she is with Izzy.

Doug trains Evan who is now an EMT trainee. Elsa has trouble letting go of Sam. Casey breaks down a door with an axe after Sam gets locked inside the bathroom of his apartment.

Justice League 2.13.A

Starcrossed - Part 1

The Justice League are in Washington, DC guarding the Kasnian peace conference when a giant spaceship attacks. Hawkgirl recognizes it as a Gordanian cruiser. It proves to be a little too much for the Justice League but then more spaceships appear and strike down the Gordanian ship. The other ships are from Thanagar. Hawkgirl's teammates quickly learn is her home planet. The commander of the Thanagarians is Hro Talak. He wants to meet with the Earth's leaders.

Commander Talak gives a presentation to the United Nations. He explains the danger that Earth is in from the Gordanians. He offers the assistance of Thanagar. The Earth's leaders need a little time to decide. Green Lantern meets Hro Talak and learns that Talak and Shayera are engaged. John is angry at her for not telling him about her people.

The Earth's leaders decide to accept the offer of help. The Thanagarians start to build a giant force field projector in the desert with some help from the Superman, J'onn J'onzz, Flash, Green Lantern, and Wonder Woman.

Drones (2010)

Brian (Woodward) discovers that Clark (Levine), his coworker at Omnilink, is an alien whose people want to take over the Earth. He starts dating Amy (Bettis), another coworker, who also turns out to be an alien. The romance lasts less than a week. The end of the relationship precipitates other events.

Thoughts

This entire movie takes place in the offices of Omnilink. All the scenes are in cubicles, meeting rooms, supply rooms, etc.

The Phil Silvers Show 1.34

Bilko on Wall Street

Bilko goes to New York to visit Morgan Twinhasey, a friend of his who works on Wall Street. Ernie thinks that Twinhasey is rich but soon finds out that he is underpaid and overworked. Ernie does what he can to trick the firm of Butherworth Butterworth and Butterworth, Twinhasey's employer, into giving him a raise. Bilko's plan doesn't exactly work. Butterworth Butterworth and Butterworth fires Twinhasey, instead of giving him a raise. Bilko solves the problem by coming up with a scheme to convince Butterworth Butterworth and Butterworth that they have to get Twinhasey back.

I enjoyed this documentary very much. I thought it was going to be focused just on Sarah Jane, since this was her last episode. There is some focus on her but it is more about Hand of Fear than it is specifically about Sarah Jane or Elisabeth Sladen.

She-Ra and the Princesses of Power 4.13

Destiny - Part 2

Glimmer and Scorpia arrive in the Fight Zone and go looking for the Black Garnet. They encounter Lonnie, Kyle, and Rohelio who are getting ready to leave the Fright Zone. They no longer like or want to work for Catra.

Hordak tries to kill Catra. He chases her around the Fright Zone. Catra eventually gets the advantage, destroys his gun, and separates him from the First Ones tech that is giving him strength. He is almost crushed under a piece of machinery.

Glimmer and Scorpia find the Black Garnet. Scorpia connects with it and becomes very powerful.

She-Ra goes to the Beacon to try and stop Light Hope. It is too late now that Scorpia has connected with the Black Garnet. The Heart of Etheria is now in balance. 

The five princess (Glimmer, Frosta, Scorpia, Mermista, Perfuma) feel their powers increase. They are able to fight off the Horde soldiers and machines that threaten their lands much more easily but then the power takes over their bodies. They are no longer able to do as they please.

Samurai Jack 4.X

Genndy's Roundtable

This is a special feature in the DVD set for season 4 of Samurai Jack. It is a roundtable discussion with show runner Genndy Tartakovsky and six of the artists who worked on the show. They introduce themselves and talk about some of the challenges and triumphs they experienced while working on the show. A scenes from a few episodes are shown in the course of telling stories about working on the show: Jack and the Three Blind Archers, Chicken Jack, Jack and the Rave, The Birth of Evil, Tale of X-49.

I met Andy Suriano, one of the artists, at Heroes Con several years ago. I bought a print from him of Jack and Aku which I still have.

I really like this feature. I don't recall if I had watched it before. It didn't drag in the least bit. It was fun to hear these artists talk about their work.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel 1.08

Thank You and Good Night

Midge and Susie commiserate over drinks about Harry Drake's reaction to her set about Sophie Lennon. They don't know what they are going to do. Susie still has a couple penny ante gigs set up. They decide to go ahead with those.

Midge and Joel chat at Ethan's birthday party, the next day. She wants to move forward with divorce proceedings. He does not. He tells her about the promotion he's sure he's going to get. They take their kids home after the party. One thing leads to another, Midge and Joel end up sleeping together. She gets him to sneak out the next morning before her mother finds out.

Joel is flying high the next day. He's very excited about the presentation that his team is getting ready to put on. He's counting on it going well. He shares with his team that he Midge might be getting back together soon. They are very happy for him.

Spectre (2015)

The movie opens in Mexico City as James Bond (Craig) chases a man through the streets and then on to a helicopter. They fight as the helicopter flies above Mexico City. Bond takes the man's ring and then after a struggle throws first the man and then the pilot from the helicopter.

Bond gets reprimanded by M (Ralph Fiennes) when he returns to London. Bond tries to claim that he was there on vacation but M isn't buying it. He suspends Bond from active duty. Bond goes to see Q (Ben Whishaw) who injects him with a tracking device.

Bond is supposed to stay in London but he goes to Rome, to the funeral of the man whom he ejected from the helicopter. Lucia (Monica Belluci), the man's wife, expects to be killed by her dead husband's employer. Bond saves her from that and urges her to contact Felix Leiter.

A Tearful Connection with Hikaru

Hikaru is feeling good about herself since the previous episode. She goes horseback riding with Daisuke to train to be a better pilot. Daisuke leaves her in the dust. She is unhappy. He acts as though he is doing her a favor.

Professor Umon tells Daisuke and Kouji about photos quantum, an energy source that is invisible to the naked eye, visible only with special goggles. It is more powerful than super uranium and safer. They need to retrieve some so they come up with a plan.

Duke Fleed in Grendizer creates a distraction while Kouji in Double Spazer goes to retrieve the super energy source. Gandal sends several minifos and a saucer beast out to deal with Grendizer, whom he suspects is looking for Skull Moon Base. Zuril suspects that Duke Fleed is up to to something else but he isn't sure what it is.

Zuril figures out that Grendizer is creating a distraction but he doesn't know why. He goes looking and finds Double Spazer. He orders minifos to attack Double Spazer. They do but Kouji uses the ship's weapons to destroy some of them and then gets away. He returns to the space center.

Kouji is in bad shape, once again. He needs to lay down. Hikaru looks after him until she sees that Grendizer needs help in his fight with the saucer beast. She takes off in Double Spazer and helps Grendizer defeat the saucer beast.

Crashing 1.06

Episode 6

Anthony looks for Kate. Lulu goes with him. Kate hangs out with Fred and Justine. Fred is hiding from Sam who keeps calling him. Anthony keeps trying to call Kate. Neither Kate nor Fred pickup. Colin falls out the window in Melody's room. Anthony and Lulu have sex. Anthony has decided that he doesn't want to get back together with Kate.

She-Ra and the Princesses of Power 4.12

Destiny - Part 1

Glimmer finds Scorpia and tells her that she needs to connect with the Black Garnet, her runestone. Scorpia is reluctant. Shadow Weaver disapproves of Glimmer's plan but Glimmer is to determined stick with her own plan. It takes some convincing but she talks Scorpia into going to the Fright Zone with her.

Double Trouble escapes from Bright Moon and returns to the Fright Zone. She tells Catra that She-Ra is gone from Bright Moon. The time to attack is here. Catra starts to make plans. Hordak has his doubts but when Catra tells him the good news he signs on. Things are looking up for Catra until Double Trouble has a chat with Hordak and gives him reasons to doubt Catra. Hordak goes to confront Catra. Double Trouble sends a message to Glimmer letting her know what she's done.

She-Ra, Bow, Swift Wind, Micah, and Entrapta go to the center of Beast Island. Entrapta shows them what she has learned about the Heart of Etheria. She-Ra understands the need to go back. Everyone else is with her except Entrapta. She wants to stay. They finally convince her that it isn't safe to stay and that they really are her friends. Together they leave in the First Ones ship in which they came to Beast Island. They arrive back in Bright Moon just after Glimmer has teleported herself and Scorpia out of there.

The Phil Silvers Show 1.33

War Games

Bilko needs to go to his best friend's wedding. He is supposed to be the best man. Colonel Hall wants Bilko to train a squad of recruits. Bilko tries to take it easy on the recruits but they try very hard to get him to lead them and train them. There are war games coming up.

Thoughts

Where has this best friend been all season? Who even knew that Bilko had a best friend?

This episode was a little all over the place. It wasn't Bilko's best. This strikes me as one of the lesser episodes of the season.

Skyfall (2012)

starring Daniel Craig

The movie opens with a chase through Istanbul involving motorcycles and then a train. Bond is pursuing a man who stole a hard drive with names and pictures of undercover agents. The man gets away and Bond gets shot by one of his fellow agents who was ordered by M to try and take out the thief while he and Bond were fighting. Bond falls from the train into a river. His body isn't found and after a few months he is declared dead.

Bond returns to London, after the funeral. He meets with M (Judi Dench) and then later Q (Ben Whishaw), the quartermaster. He follows a lead to Shanghai. He finds the man who stole the hard drive but the man falls to his death before Bond can find out to whom he gave the drive. Bond follows a lead to a casino in Macao. There he meets Severine, a woman who warns him about the men watching her. They try to stop him from leaving but with some help from the same agent, who first helped and then shot him in Turkey, he escapes.

Quantum of Solace (2008)

The movie starts with a car chase, in Italy, very soon after the end of the previous James Bond movie. Bond is in one car being pursued by another car. The road is narrow. There is lots of traffic. The chase moves from paved roads to unpaved roads. They are in the mountains and there are lots of steep drops. Bond eventually evades those pursuing him. He meets up with M (Judy Dench) and some other MI-6 agents. He has Mr. White (Jesper Christensen) in the trunk of the car.

M and Bond try to interrogate Mr. White but it turns out that MI-6 has been infiltrated. Mitchell, M's bodyguard, turns out to be working for the same organization as Mr. White. Mitchell kills one of the other MI-6 agents and then takes off running. Bond goes after him which leads to a long chase through Sienna, Italy. The chase ends with Bond killing Mitchell.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel 1.07

Put that on Your Plate!

Midge's act at the Gaslight seems to be getting stronger. She's just added some material to her act about her parents having sex. Susie thinks that it is time for her to start doing shows at spots other than the Gaslight. Susie talks to Harry Srake, a much bigger agent than her, and gets Midge a gig opening for Sophie Lennon. Susie takes Midge to see Sophie and Harry. Sophie invites Midge to come over for a visit.

Abe overhears Midge and Imogene, her friend, talking about the state of Midge's relationship with Joel. Abe brings home a colleague of his who is also young, handsome, and a divorce lawyer. Midge and Rose don't know how to react. Rose is offended. 

Abe tries to tell Rose about Miriam turning Joel away when he said he wanted to get back together with her. Rose is offended that it took Abe a month to tell her about this and that Miriam didn't say anything to her about it. She goes to the fortuneteller only to discover that the fortuneteller moved on and been replaced by another, younger fortuneteller. 

Joel meets with Abe to tell him about a possible promotion and his plan to take care of Midge and the kids. Abe doesn't want to talk to his son-in-law but he relents after several minutes of Joel talking through the door.

Midge visits Sophie Lennon at her home. Sophie looks nothing in private like she does on stage. She is very well off and has lots of servants. She gives Midge some career advice and gives her a fur coat. Midge is perplexed but accepts the gift. Midge goes from Sophie's place to Shabbos services where she meets up with her parents. Rose gets irate when Miriam won't tell her, in the middle of the service, where she got the fur coat.

Harry comes to the Gaslight to see Midge's act. Midge's head is filled with her encounters with Sophie and Rose. She talks about first Rose and then Sophie, instead of doing her regular act. The crowd seems to love it but Harry feels insulted. He gets up and leaves. Susie tries to talk him into staying but he leaves anyway.

Casino Royale (2006)

James Bond (Craig) works a case that takes him to Madagascar, London, the Bahamas, Miami, Montenegro, and Venice. He spends a lot of time in a casino in Montenegro where he works with Vesper Lynd (Eva Green), another operative but one who is not licensed to kill or even familiar with it. It is at the casino that he meets Felix Leiter (Jeffrey Wright), a CIA operative, and crosses paths with Le Chiffre (Mads Mikkelsen, a financier of international terror organizations.

My favorite scene in the movie is the chase scene that happens in Madagascar. It doesn't get any better than that. There are some other tense moments but the only other one that really stands out is the scene in the building that is collapsing. The first hour wasn't bad but the movie did seem to drag a bit once they got to the casino.

Sword of Trust (2019)

Cynthia (Bell) and Mary (Watkins) return to Cynthia's hometown of Birmingham, AK. Cynthia's grandfather just died. The only thing he left her was his sword, which turns out to be a relic of the U.S. Civil War. It is proof, according to some, that the South actually won the war. They take it to a pawn shop which is owned and run by Mel (Maron). He offers them money for it but it isn't enough.

Cynthia and Mary walk. Nathaniel (Bass), Mel's assistant, does a quick internet search and discovers that the sword maybe worth as much as $50,000. He finds a potential buyer and then convinces Cynthia and Mary to come back. Mel and Nathaniel team-up with Cynthia and Mary to try and sell the sword. 

Crashing 1.05

Episode 5

Everyone gets eviction notices. Sam plays a prank on Will after he learns that Will has found a house and wants Fred to move in with him. Melody wants Colin to move to Poland with her but he has questions about some of her paintings he finds while they are packing. Kate acts like she never expressed any doubts abou her relationship with Anthony. Lulu spends the entire episode in pajamas. She even goes to work in them.

Daisuke and Hikaru have new clothes. Hikaru's new outfit includes a miniskirt. Danbei, her father, does not approve when he sees it.

Gandal and Zuril are contacted by the Great Vega. The Vegatron Star, the power source of the Vegan Empire, was swallowed by a black hole. The Great Vega needs Gandal and Zuril to find a new energy source. Zuril recommends super uranium which can be found on Earth. They launch Saucer Beast Gan Gan and a fleet of minifos to get the super uranium.

The sensors at the Space Center go haywire. Professor Umon authorizes Kouji to investigate in Double Spazer but orders him not to do anything rash. Kouji finds the source of the disturbance, Saucer Beast Gan Gan which is rapidly approaching the Super Uranium Base.

Professor Umon contacts Daisuke. He comes to the Space Center and takes off in Grendizer headed for the Super Uranium Base. Kouji attacks the saucer beast but Grendizer shows up before the fight gets very far. They destroy the Minifos but Saucer beast Gan Gan escapes. It heads to the Shirakaba ranch.

Grendizer and Double Spazer catch up to the saucer beast just in time to prevent it from kidnapping Hikaru and Goro. Kouji picks up Hikaru and Goro but gets badly injured in the process. Grendizer fights the saucer beast while Kouji is busy rescuing their friends. The saucer beast has Grendizer down on the ground.

Kouji is unable to pilot Double Spazer. He is fading fast. Hikaru takes control of Double Spazer and with some guidance from Kouji she joins the fight. She destroys Saucer Beast Gan Gan but then she passes out. She wakes up in Daisuke's arms.

Doctor Who (1963) 14.02.04

The Hand of Fear - Part 4

Eldrad pulls the bolt from her chest. The Doctor and Sarah help her get on to the elevator. They take it down to level 306. They encounter another trap on the way but the Doctor manages to disarm it. They get Eldrad to the regeneration chamber before she expires.

Eldrad regenerates as a male silicon based lifeform. The Doctor and Sarah learn that Eldrad withheld some information from them. Eldrad wanted to rule Kastria and now with the help he received from the Doctor he will. He quickly learns that all the Kastrians are dead and gone. Eldrad has other ideas but the Doctor puts an end to that and Eldrad falls into an abyss.

Sarah and the Doctor return to the TARDIS. The Doctor receives a telepathic summons from Gallifrey. He can't take Sarah so he drops her off back on Earth.

She-Ra and the Princesses of Power 4.11

Beast Island

Adora, Bow, and Swift Wind arrive on Beast Island. They are there to find Entrapta. They find something else, trouble. Adora can't transform into She-Ra. They are attacked by lots of large beasts. It doesn't look good for them when someone shows up and saves them, but it isn't Entrapta. It is King Micah, Glimmer's father.

Micah has lost all sense of time since he has been on Beast Island. He thinks Glimmer is still a little girl. He is amazed to learn that Swift Wind can speak. They try to keep from him the fact that Angela is gone but he eventually finds out.

Glimmer goes to the Beacon, to see Light Hope. Glimmer is not authorized to be there. Light Hope sends hordes of robotic spider creatures after her but Glimmer destroys them all. 

Adora, Bow, Swift Wind, and King Micah head to the center of Beast Island. The place is littered with First Ones tech. There is a noise that is overwhelming. The island begins to overpower them. Adora refuses to give in and finally transforms into She-Ra. She saves her friends and then Entrapta shows up.

Light Hope finally appears before Glimmer who tells the hologram that she wants to control the power at the center of Etheria so that she can defeat the Horde. Light hope tells her about the power at the center of Etheria and what must be done in order to tame it. The key to it is a Princess who has never connected with her rune stone, Scorpia.

NewsRadio 4.16

Beep Beep

Mr. James wants Dave and Lisa to get back together. He thinks that their productivity has suffered since they split up. Mr. James puts Bill on the job after he gives it a swing and gets nowhere.

Mr. James gets Matthew a birthday present, an electric car that he can drive around the office.

Thoughts

I wasn't crazy about either of these storylines but I didn't hate them either.

Mrs. X at the Gaslight

Midge continues to perform at parties. She starts performing with Randall, another comic, at parties. Randall introduces her to his agent from the William Morris Agency. Susie finds out about this and gets a chance to see them perform together.

Abe gets a job offer from Bell Labs. He acts cagey toward the recruiter but secretly he is delighted. He takes the family out for dinner. Noah, Midge's brother, and Astrid, Noah's wife, are just back from Israel and join them for dinner. The meal is ruined when they spot Joel and Penny across the room. They leave but Joel spots them. He talks to Midge for a moment, alone. He notices that she is no longer wearing her wedding ring.

Susie is not taken by Midge and Randall's act. She tries to discourage Midge from performing with him. She goes so far as to confront Randall's agent at the William Morris agency.

The episode ends with a couple of faceless guys listening to a recording of Midge at the Gaslight Cafe. They have no idea who she is but they like what they hear. They label the recording "Mrs. X at the Gaslight".

This episode was okay but not really my thing. I should probably just stick to the episodes that have Pinky and the Brain in them.
