Ichigo Dies!
Renji talks a lot and prepares to deliver the killing blow but Ichigo comes back to life. His spiritual energy overwhelms Renji but then Byakuya, Rukia's older brother steps in and moves so fast that Ichigo only feels the effects of what Byakuya does.
Ichigo's Zanpakutō, his sword, is broken in two and he is left in a pool of his own blood. Rukia agrees to leave, to return to the Soul Society, with Byakuya and Renji. Byakuya relents and leaves Ichigo in pool of blood without delivering the killing blow. Rukia tells Ichigo not to come after her.
Ichigo wakes up later in the abode of Uraha. Ichigo wants to go after Rukia immediately. Urahara agrees to help him travel to the Soul Society only if he will train with him first for 10 days.
I thought that the events in this episode would occur at the end of the season but there are still three episodes to go in the season. I'm wondering if the 10 days of training will take place over those 3 episodes or stretch into the second season. I don't remember.
This was a solidly good episode. I love how they used the music at key moments to heighten the tension. I look forward to seeing how the season winds up and what role Chad, Orihime, and Uryū play in those three episodes.
