starring Steve Buscemi, Catherine Keener, Dermot Mulroney
directed by Tom DiCillo
90 minutes
Nick (Steve Buscemi) is trying to direct an indie movie movie but things keep interfering with the shooting. Lights get broken, actors get distracted, a boom mic drifts into the shot, the cameraman makes mistakes, you name it, it happens.
The first third of the movie turns out to be a dream that Nick was having. The second third of the movie turns out to be a dream that Nicole (Catherine Keener), the lead actress in the movie and in the movie that Nick is shooting, has. The final third of the movie isn't a dream but is equally bizarre.
This is the third movie that Steve Buscemi has been in that I have seen this year. The other two are Con Air (1997) and The Big Lebowski (1998). Catherine Keener has been in a number movies that I have seen, the most recent one was Get Out (2017). Dermot Mulroney played Wolf, the cinematographer. I've seen him in a few other movies, the most recent one was Burn After Reading (2008).
I like how the story kind of, sort of comes full circle towards the end.
I really enjoyed this movie. It has my kind of oddball humor. I think I would have liked it even if it didn't seem to have a happy ending.
