Temporal Edict
Boimler rats out the rest of the crew when he is cornered by Captain Freeman in the turbolift. She wants to know about buffer time. He explains it to her and she reacts by making it against the rules to use buffer time. This drives everyone nuts except Boimler who loves it.
Mariner goes on an away mission to Gelrak V with Commander Ransom and several other members of the crew. They accidentally insult the locals, in part because of Captain Freeman's temporal edict. The people of Gelrak imprison them and insist that either Mariner or ransom will have to fight Vindor, the Genrakian champion.
The Gelrakian's also board the the Cerritos, attack the crew with spears, and paint graffiti all over the ship. The crew is incredibly worn out from trying to keep Captain Freeman's temporal edict. She makes it worse by insisting that they maintain her temporal edict while fighting the Gelrakians. It isn't until Boimler points out how everything has gone downhill since the temporal edict went into effect that Captain Freeman rescinds her edict.
Thoughts
There are hints in this episode that Mariner and Ransom are hot for one another. I expect that something will come of this before the end of the season.
This was a lot of fun. I like how Boimler got to be on top, for a little while, but I also like how bummed out he is by how Captain Freeman coins a new term, the Boimler Effect, which emphasizes the importance of laziness.
