The Orville 2.09

Identity - Part 2

The crew of the Orville are held prisoner in the shuttle bay. The Kaylons eventually take the bridge crew to a meeting room. The Kaylons explain to them how it is going to work. The bridge crew doesn't like it but they don't feel as though they have a choice.

The Roosevelt, another ship from Earth, approaches the Orville. The bridge crew to the Orville are forced to act like nothing is wrong. Captain Mercer talks to Captain Marcos and tells him that everything is good but he sneaks in a code phrase that tells Captain Marcos that all is not good.

The Kaylons pick up on Ed's deception. They blow up the Roosevelt before it can get away. The Kaylons aren't ready to get rid of Captain Mercer so they punish him by making him watch as push of the junior officers out of an airlock.

Kelly comes up with a plan get away in a shuttle and then go to the Krill for help. Yaphit sneaks out of the shuttle bay through a small tunnel and gets a weapon that Bortus then uses to deactivate two of the guards. Kelly and Gordon leave in the shuttle just as the Kaylons figure out what they are doing.

Ty crawls through the ventilation tunnel with Yaphit. They head to a communications room and try to get a message off to Earth. A Kaylon catches them in the act of sending a message. Ty gets captured. The Kaylon leader orders Isaac to kill Ty but Isaac decides that he's had enough.

Isaac helps the humans retake the Orville. They arrive near Earth. a big battle breaks out between the Kaylons and the ships of the Planetary Union. They manage to destroy several of Kaylon ships but it isn't looking good for the forces of Earth.

Kelly and Gordon show up just in the nick of time with a fleet of Krill warships. They destroy several more Kaylon ships before forcing the remaining ships to flee.

Thoughts

This was better than part one. There are a few things that don't fully add up. There are moments when it seemed like the Kaylons should have investigated what was going on and did not. The space battle near the end of the episode was much more Star Wars than Star Trek.

On the whole I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this episode. My expectations weren't super high. It isn't one of my favorite episodes but it also isn't one of my least favorite.
