Triggers in Leash
starring Gene Barry, Darren McGavin, Ellen Corby
directed by Don Medford
Red Hillman (Darren McGavin) barges into Maggie Ryan's (Ellen Corby) place looking for Del Delaney (Gene Barry). Hillman wants revenge for a perceived slight that happened the night before. Hillman blames Delaney, who disagrees with HIllman's assessment of what happened the night before but he is more than happy to settle their disagreement with gunplay.
Maggie convinces the two gunmen that she will see to it that the first one to draw their gun will hang. This leads to a prolonged stand off between Del and Red.
Thoughts
Yes, there is more to this episode but I think my summary sets things up nicely.
This episode feels a little out of place for an episode of Alfred Hitchcock Presents but I like the tension in it. The performances by all three actors kept me on the edge of my seat. Some of the credit should also go to the way it was filmed and edited together.
Notes
Ellen Corby has been a guest star in several TV shows that I have watched including the pilot episode of The Invaders. This is the first of four episodes of Alfred Hitchcock Presents in which she appeared. She also appeared in one episode of the Alfred Hitchcock Hour. She was also in a few movies I have seen including Born to Kill (1947) and They Won't Believe Me (1947).
Darren McGavin has been in a few things I have seen including the Six Million Dollar Man (1973). This is the first of two episodes of Alfred Hitchcock Presents in which he appeared. He also showed up in an episode of the Alfred Hitchcock Hour. He is probably best known playing the lead in Kolchak the Night Stalker.
Gene Barry was in one more episode of Alfred Hitchcock Presents following this one and in one episode of the Alfred Hitchcock Hour. He played the lead in at least five different TV shows from the mid-1960s to the mid-1990s.
