starring Duane Jones
directed George Romero
96 minutes
Barbra and her brother are visiting their father's grave when a creepy looking man attacks them. Barbra gets away but her brother does not. She tries escaping in their car but her brother had the keys.
Barbra, in a state of shock over what just happened, makes her way to a nearby house. She is soon joined by Ben who was also attacked by weird looking people. He boards up the house from the inside. She is too out of it to be of any help. More weird looking people surround the house.
Ben and Barbra soon learn that there are normal people in the basement: Harry and Helen Cooper and their daughter, plus another couple, Tom and Judy. Ben comes up with a plan to get them out of there after they hear on the news about how this isn't just a local phenomenon. Harry is opposed to the plan but Tom, Ben, and Judy decide to give it a go.
Ben's plan doesn't go according to plan and pretty soon the mob surrounding the house has redoubled their efforts to get in.
Thoughts
None of the actors in this movie are big names in Hollywood. This is the first film directed by George Romero that I have seen.
This is one film that I've been meaning to see for quite a while. I already knew how it ended but I still found it to be quite suspenseful as I didn't know all the twists and turns that would lead to that ending. The special effects are not state of the art by today's standards. I really like the way they use music and the way the movie is shot.
I don't love this movie but I enjoyed watching it.
