Heart of Glory
The Enterprise crosses into the Neutral Zone to investigate a conflict that already happened. They find a Talarian ship that is in bad shape there are three Klingons on board. They bring the Klingons back to the Enterprise. One of the Klingons dies soon after they arrive aboard the Enterprise.
Worf interacts with Commander Korris and Lieutenant Konmel, the two surviving Klingons. They are surprised to find a Klingon serving aboard a Starfleet vessel. He tells them a little bit about himself. They are stunned by the revelation that he was rescued and raised by humans when he was very little.
Worf grows on Korris and Konmel. They become comfortable enough with him to explain that they are actually renegades who are opposed to the peace treaty between the Klingon Empire and the Federation. They stole the ship from which they they were rescued. They destroyed a Klingon ship that was trying to apprehend them.
The Enterprise encounters a Klingon ship that is looking for the renegade Klingons. Captain Picard has Korris and Konmel put into a detention cell until they are within transporter range of the Klingon ship. Korris and and Konmel fight their way out of the detention cell. Konmel is killed by security during the breakout.
Korris makes his way to Engineering. He demands to talk to Worf. Worf talks to Korris and when he refuses to surrender he shoots and kills him.
Thoughts
The first 15 to 20 minutes of this episode, before they find the Klingons, focuses heavily on an upgrade to Geordi's visor that allows what he sees while aboard the Talarian vessel to be broadcast back to the Enterprise.
This is the first episode of The Next Generation in which Klingons, other that Worf, appear.
This is a very good episode. possibly my favorite from the first season that I have watched in recent years. I can't recall any other episodes from the first season that I like more than this one.
The story, at it's heart, is about the difference of opinion between Worf and Korris over how to view the Klingon-Federation peace treaty. Korris wants to return to the old days. Worf accepts the treaty for what it is and believes that Klingons must adapt to the new reality.
