A Whole New Reality
Dan-sim has a flashback to an attempt on the Emperor's life. Mun-do tries talking to Se-gye but Dan-sim won't let go of him. Mun-do chides his cousin and then leaves. Se-gye starts to drive Dan-sim home but stops at a gas station after she complains about getting nauseous riding in his car. While he is in the convenience store she leaves on foot but not before the gas attendant gives her Se-gye's credit card.
Se-gye is wondering about where she disappeared to with his credit card when he gets a call from Son Jae-han, his assistant. He fills his boss in on what he just learned: Mun-do is the one behind Kaiserman Capital, the company that bought the convertible bonds that Biojei floated. The stock price of Bio-jei currently sits at 90K. If it drops below 50K then Kaiserman could convert the bonds into shares of stock which would effectively make Kaiserman (and by proxy Mun-do) the majority shareholder of Biojei.
Cha Se-gye flashes back to his childhood and remembers the first time he met Mun-do and when he learned how dangerous Mun-do could be. Kang Dan-sim goes out for food and sees her neighbor Baek Gwang-nam getting breaking up with his girlfriend.
Se-gye gets notifications of all the transactions on his credit card. He goes to see Dan-sim. They wind up arguing, first in front of her apartment building and then at a restaurant down the block. He asks her about the job offer he made her but she is unready to commit to it. She says she she will think about it. Mun-do tells his grandfather that Se-gye is dating someone. That night Se-gye has a dream that involves Seo-ri that is set in the distant past.
Dan-sim gets another job, again working side by side with Gwang-nam, this time in a supermarket / department store handing out samples to customers. She catches the attention of the shoppers when she stops to watch an old TV show. She repeats some of the lines from the show. One of the shoppers recognizes her as a former child actress. Buoyed up by the recognition she has received she decides to go see Cha Se-gye and accept the offer he made to her.
Cha Se-gye wants to hire Shin Seo-ri but he learns that the talent agency which represents her doesn't want to let her sign that contract because they want Yoon Ji-hyo, the actress whom Shin Seo-ri was standing in during the poison drinking scene (in episode 1), to get the contract. Dan-sim goes to the offices of Biojei where she runs into Yoon Ji-hyo and her rep. A slap fight breaks out between Ji-hyo and Seo-ri. The fight is broken up when Se-gye arrives on the scene and announces that he is the head of Biojei Entertainment.
Thoughts
Mun-do looks just like the Emperor. Se-gye looks like the masked man who fought off one of the assassins in Dan-sim's flashback (at the beginning of the episode) and confronted her that same night. Dan-sim learns in the first 20 minutes of the episode how Se-gye and Mun-do are related thanks to an electronic billboard that she sees while they are ar the gas station.
The plot thickens. I was confused at first but I'm now starting to see why Mun-do has such a prominent part in this show.
Mun-do and Se-gye are brothers in the flashbacks. I think that Yoon Ji-hyo is also in the flashbacks but I am not sure just yet.
I don't fully understand how claiming that Shin Seo-ri is now represented by Biojei Entertainment, a company Cha Se-gye just made up out of thin air, changes everything. Possibly there is something different about South Korean contract law or there is something that has yet to be explained but it seems like a bit of handwaving. Either way, I'm still on board for more of this show. On the whole this show is fun to watch, very melodramatic, but I'm not sure that all the pieces fit together neatly.
