The Invaders 1.10

The Innocent

David Vincent is contacted by Captain Ross, US Air Force. Ross has first hand knowledge of the Invaders and wants Vincent to testify about what he has seen in front of the Peterson Committee of the US Congress. Vincent is in Maine trying to track down Nat Greeley who has one of the Invaders weapons, a disc. The Invaders are also looking for Greeley.

The Invaders get to Greeley. They capture his kid. He helps them to capture David Vincent. Magnus, the leader of the Invaders, makes an effort to convince Vincent that his people don't want to do the people of Earth any harm. He takes him on a trip in a space ship. The go to Santa Margaretta, a town where David used to live. He reconnects with Billy Stearns, an childhood friend, and Helen, an ex-girlfriend who wants to get back together with him. It all seems so good but Vincent senses that something is wrong.

It turns out that the whole trip is an illusion. They never went anywhere. Magnus just made him think they did using a high tech device. David tries to escape. Magnus wants him to call Captain Ross and tell him that he was mistaken, that he has nothing to tell the Peterson Committee. David refuses until they threaten to kill Nat Greely's family.

Vincent makes the phone call. The Invaders won't let him or Greely go. The Invaders force them to drink whiskey and then put them in a car which they send hurtling down a mountain road. The brakes don't work. The two men barely survive the experience.

Thoughts

This was a pretty good episode although its funny how the Invaders keep changing their approach to David Vincent. In the earliest episodes they just wanted to kill him. They attempt to convince him that they are only trying to help the Earth in this episode but when that doesn't work they resort to their old ways.

Mr. Inbetween 3.07

I'm Your Girl

Freddy gets beaten up on account of gambling debts. Michele, Freddy's woman, goes to see Ray, asks him to do something about it. Ray goes to see Remy, the bookie to whom Freddy owes money. Remy agrees to give Freddy a little more time to pay up.

Ray leaves town for a bit. He's traveling with Rafael and Zoe. Rafael drives in one car. Ray and Zoe travel in the other one. Ray does all the driving. They talk a lot. They don't spend much time with Rafael. The episode ends with Ray and Zoe kissing.

Thoughts

Gary and Brittany are in this episode but blink and you'll miss them.

WTF? I assume Ray is protection. He's there in case Rafael needs protection. I'm not sure what the deal is with Zoe. I assumed she was also there to guard Rafael but between the wide berth they seem to be giving him and the way she is acting I'm starting to have my doubts.

What is Ray doing? If he's there as muscle I would think that having sex with his traveling companion, whatever her role is, would be a no-no. Isn't he more professional than that?

This was a very low key episode. Hopefully it leads somewhere good. I would be surprised if it goes nowhere.

Crashing 1.02

Episode 2

Kate almost gets killed by a light fixture. She's still worried about Anthony and Lulu. She hires Lulu to answer the phones at her job. Kate does what she can to keep Lulu away from Anthony.

Sam shows up at Fred's job, interrupts a meeting, and lures him away from work for the day. Sam says it is for something special. It turns out to be a funeral for his father.

Melody pursues Colin, who is still living with his wife and her lover. They wind up having lunch at the restaurant where Anthony works: We Don't Give a Fork. The food is messy but there are no eating utensils. They don't give a fork.

Lulu winds up bringing one of Kate's colleagues back to the abandoned hospital where they all live.

Thoughts

I thought that Sam's line in the previous episode about his father dying was a lie. I guess not.

I like this episode a lot, much better than the last one. The humor just worked better for me. I love the tension between Lulu and Kate.

Samurai Jack 4.10

XLIX: The Four Seasons of Death

Summer... Jack crosses a desert. He is attacked by creatures which look real. Jack eventually comes to the realization that the heat is making him see things that aren't really there.

Fall... An evil-looking scientist, who lives in a windmill, makes a mixture. He uses the it to infect a nearby well. Jack comes along and takes a drink from the well. He collapses but when the scientist moves in to get a closer look at Jack he discovers that all is not as it seems.

Winter... Miners, blacksmiths, and wizards work to create a mighty sword but it is no match for Jack's magic blade.

Spring... Jack is passing through a thorny wood when he encounters a magical woman who convinces him to stay a while. She gets very angry when he tries to leave.

Thoughts

Aku shows up very briefly in this episode.

This is different. There is no single thread that binds these four stories together. They each have their own flavor. I vaguely remember this one from the last time I watched it, years ago.
