Sam goes home for her father's funeral. Coco and Joelle go with her. Sam has some trouble coming to terms with the way she finds things when she gets there. She gets angry when she finds out that her mother didn't tell her that her father was in the hospital for a second time. Sam isn't sure what to say at her father's funeral until she finds a letter he left her in the pages of The Godfather. She also finds a book on secret societies on her father's desk.
Joelle and Coco start off at opposite ends of the scale but warm to each other a bit over the course of the episode. Gabe, Reggie, Lionel, and Troy make brief appearances but none of them are there for the funeral.
Sam's Aunt Gloria was played by Telma Hopkins whom I remember best from Gimme a Break! I haven't watched that show in decades.
This episode is all Sam. It is also very visual. A good chunk of the story took place in her parents' home, not a familiar setting.
I didn't find this episode to be as emotionally devastating as I thought the creators wanted it to be.
