Better Call Saul 2.10

Klick

Past. Jimmy and Chuck are sitting by their mother's bedside. She is comatose. Jimmy wants to go get something to eat. Chuck insists on sticking around. Jimmy finally goes to get some food. Their mother wakes up, says Jimmy's name two times and then dies. She has a DNR in place so there is nothing the doctor can do. Jimmy returns with food. He asks Chuck what happened. He tells him but when Jimmy asks him if she said anything before she died Chuck tells his brother that she did not.

Present. Jimmy rushes into the copy center. He unplugs things and gets someone to call 911. Chuck is taken to the hospital. He doesn't want to get an EKG or a CAT scan. Chuck accuses Jimmy of bribing the clerk at the copy center. Ernie lies and says that Jimmy was there because he, Ernie, called and let him know. Chuck asks them both to leave. Jimmy asks Ernie why he lied to Chuck. Ernie says that Jimmy is his friend and he didn't like the way that Chuck was going after him.

Mike follows Nacho and another of the Salamanca gang out into the desert. They are in a van and have the driver of Regalo Helado truck in the back, bound and gagged. They don't see Mike drive up to the gate after they have passed through.

Jimmy gets a judge to sign a temporary order that allows him to force Chuck to get the necessary tests. Chuck is sedated so he won't resist. Jimmy waits while the tests are conducted. Kim shows up to keep him company. The doctor finally comes out with good news and bad news. Chuck is for the most part in good health but he hasn't woken up yet. Jimmy stays by his bedside until he does.

Mike buys the sniper rifle he almost bought back in 2.04 (Gloves Off). He gets it sighted with some help from the guy who sells it to him.

Jimmy helps Chuck get home. Chuck goes into the garage, once Jimmy leaves, to get something.

Mike returns to the desert near where Nacho and his associate took the truck driver. He sets up the sniper rifle and waits for Hector Salamanca to show up. He does but Mike can't get a clean shot at him. Nacho is standing in the way. Mike is trying to decide what to do when he hears a noise. It turns out to be the horn of his car. Someone propped a stick against the horn. Mike notices there is a one-word note on the windshield: DON'T.

Jimmy gets a call from Howard. Chuck is acting strange. Jimmy goes over to visit Chuck, who is in the process of papering his house with space blanket material to insulate him from the electrical waves. Chuck has quit or retired from HHM. He feels like a failure since he screwed up the Mesa Verde filing. Jimmy tries to cheer him up and in the end he tells Chuck the truth, it was him who switched the addresses. Jimmy leaves. Chuck moves some papers to reveal a cassette recorder that is still recording.

Thoughts

Did Howard help to set up Jimmy on purpose or did Chuck manipulate him into doing that? There is very little of Kim in this episode. The scene where Mike waits for his chance to kill Hector Salamanca was tense. I can't believe that Jimmy fell for it. I was a little surprised that Chuck recovered as quickly as he did. Who wrote the note that was left on Mike's windshield? I'm guessing it was Gus. I was expecting him to show up in this episode, at the very end but he didn't.

I liked this episode but it was a tease. It was not as good as the last one. That's it for season two. I'm ready for more but I'm also ready to take a break and watch something else.
