Doctor Who (1963) 7.04.05

Inferno - Part 5

Everything goes haywire as the drill achieves maximum penetration. Most of the technicians take off running. Director Stahlman goes into the area where the drill is located. Sutton tries to fix the problem with some help from the Doctor. Stahlman attacks them. They get out of the area of the drill and close the heat shield. Stahlman is left behind but he isn't dead.

Brigade Leader Lethbridge-Stewart informs the others that the problem is far from local. It is affecting most of the country. He has orders to keep everyone on site and he intends to follow those orders. Sutton wants to leave, he even convinces Dr. Petra Williams to come with him but they are stuck for now.

The Doctor suggests that it might be too late for them but it might not be too late for his universe. He shows the Brigade Leader and Section Leader Shaw the Tardis control panel that arrived with him. They don't believe him at first but after a demonstration they want him to take them with him. The Doctor refuses. It would create a tear in the space-time continuum.

Director Stahlman calls out to Dr. Williams over the PA system. He wants her to open the doors. The Doctor tells her not to but the Brigade Leader pulls his gun and orders the Doctor to back off. Dr. Williams open the doors. Director Stahlman and four mutated technicians emerge from the drill area. They look like green wolfmen.

Platoon Under Leader Benton shows up and gets attacked by the green wolfmen. He turns into one of them. The Doctor, the Brigade Leader, Sutton, Shaw, and Dr. Williams escape to the Brigade Leader's office. They are trapped there with no way out. The Doctor comes up with a plan but just as he is about to tell them his plan the wolfmen attack.

Thoughts

This is just plain silly. It also feels longer than necessary. I bought the DVD and I'm going to stick with it to the end but I'm not terribly impressed by it. I can live with the cheesy special effects I just wish that there were some quality character moments.
