Un Village Français 3.12

Règlements de comptes
or Settling of Scores

Marcel walks out into the woods with Suzanne. He pulls out the gun he was given but he doesn't kill her. He lets her go and does his best to make it look like he killed her and buried her body. When he meets up with his friends they want to know where her wedding ring is.

Crémieux comes to see Bériot. He needs a favor. He learned from someone else that the school has a printing press. He wants to use it. Crémieux uses a bit of coercion to convince Bériot to consider helping him but at the same time Bériot seems interested in doing something. Lucienne is nervous about doing anything for Crémieux that might endanger them. Bériot promises her that he told Crémieux that he wasn't going to help him but that isn't true.

Judith and DeKervern pack up and leave for Paris. She doesn't understand how he can afford it. He tells her not to worry about it.

Daniel Larcher goes to Kollwitz for help getting Sarah released but Kollwitz refuses to hep him and tells him to find a new maid. Daniel turns to Marchetti who tries to prevent Daniel from talking to Sarah but Daniel defies him. Sarah gives Daniel some food for thought. She says that if it weren't for people like him, good people who work with the Germans, then the whole system would collapse on itself.

Daniel goes home and has dinner with Gustave and Hortense. He gets angry at her and tells his nephew that she has a German friend. Gustave doesn't understand why his aunt would have a German friend. The next day Daniel tells Hortense he wants her out of the house by the time he returns that evening.

Marcel catches up to Suzanne. She is in hiding at a friend's place. He gets the ring off her finger and then winds up spending the night. They are woken up the next morning by a knock at the door. It is Loriot, the policeman that Suzanne has been sleeping with. The two men eye each other carefully, exchange a few words, and then Loriot leaves.

Raymond decides he's had enough of the double life. He spends the night with Marie and then goes home to Suzanne. He tells her that he's leaving her. She tries to reason with him but he won't listen. Servier's nephew catches up to Ramond on the street and forces him into a car.

Marcel meets up with his communist pals. They have brought someone else with them who is going to take him away from Villeneuve. He shows them the ring but then they agree that he can hold on to it.

Servier's nephew wants to kill Raymond but he loses his cool. He regains it once Raymond turns his back and walks away. He shoots Raymond from behind. Raymond falls to the ground.

Daniel comes home and finds that Hortense has attempted suicide by taking some drugs. He starts to try CPR as the episode and the season end.

Thoughts

I'm not so sure about Crémieux. I wonder if what he's pulling Jules into is about more than just the Resistance. I wonder if it is business.

There are at least two cliffhangers here and plenty of other dangling threads to be picked up in the following season.

This is a good episode but not a great one. I want to watch more but not so badly that I can't put the show on pause for a little while.

I think that might be it for Marcel and possibly DeKervern and Judith for at least a little while, if not forever. I'm pretty sure that Muller will return. He was the only major character who was not in this episode.
