Titans East (Part 1)
Cyborg travels to Steel City to help the Titans East get their headquarters up and running. Aqualad, Bumblebee, Speedy, and Mas y Menos make up the Titans East. Their HQ is a mess and they don't function very well as a team. Cyborg helps them to rectify both problems.
Cyborg is getting ready to leave Steel City when Brother Blood attacks Titans Tower East. He has brought with him his HIVE robots which look a lot like Cyborg and were built with the help of the plans to Cyborg's machinery that Brother Blood stole. The Titans East are able to repel the intruders including Brother Blood.
Cyborg gets a call from Robin who wants him to return now that Titans East are on the right track. Cyborg tells Robin that he's decided to stay in Steel City with the Titans East. Cyborg heads off to bed unaware that his teammates are all under the spell of Brother Blood.
Thoughts
Robin, Starfire, Raven, and Beast Boy are barely in this episode after the first few minutes.
Aren't the Teen Titans based in New York City? Is Steel City supposed to be Pittsburgh? Isn't Pittsburgh West of New York City? Why are they the Titans East if the are based in a city that is in a city that is West of the city where the other Teen Titans are based? Something here doesn't add up.
Cyborg sings a variant of the show's theme song to himself while he is driving to Steel City.
There is a second villain in this episode, Steamroller. He is under Brother Blood's spell for the whole episode and doesn't seem very human.
I like the twist at the end of the episode.
The Titans East seem to go out of their way to step on one another's toes until Cyborg shows them how to work as a team. Brother Blood is considerably stronger than I remembered him being. He manhandles Cyborg and barely breaks a sweat doing it.
This is a decent episode but it is a little too heavy on the fighting for me. There are some character moments but all the infighting amongst the Titans East gets old fast.
