The Magma Diver
Shinji, Asuka, and Rei are forced to stay behind when their class goes on a trip to Okinawa. Shinji expected it. Rei doesn't comment on it. Asuka is angry she isn't doesn't get to go.
An Angel egg is found in the heart of a volcano. Asuka is tasked with retrieving it. She refuses until Rei offers to go in her place. Shinji is Asuka's backup.
Asuka descends into the magma in Unit 02. She picks up the egg but before she can get it to the surface it hatches. She fights the newly hatched Angel as she ascends. She almost doesn't make it but Shinji steps in and helps her.
Rei doesn't get to play a bit part but she's in this episode. Most of their classmates are only in the very beginning of the episode.
Asuka continues to act up. She's the fiery one. Shinji and Rei are both more sullen.
This is a decent episode. I have three more episodes until I reach the midpoint. I'm undecided as to whether I will take a break then and go back to Inuyasha for a while or stick with NGE.
