Royal concubine Kang Dan-sim is sentenced to death. She is forced to drink poison and dies. Her soul leaves her body and travels forward in time 300 years into the body of actress Shin Seo-ri. Dan-sim returns to consciousness in the middle of a shoot of a tv show. The scene is very similar to the one she just experienced, that led to her death. She freaks out and fights back.
It takes her some time to realize that time has passed since she died. She wanders outside the historical section of Seoul, where the shoot is taking place, and finds herself in the 21st century. She has an encounter with Chaebol bad boy Cha Se-gye. His driver almost hit her when she wandered into the street. Cha Se-gye berates her for doing what she did. She attacks him. He fights back, both wielding bouquets of flowers that they have grabbed from a nearby truck. He realizes he is creating a scene and backs off. He gives her his business card, saying that he will pay for her medical bills and then leaves.
She wanders around and winds up in a museum where she learns a bit more from a student and sees a painting that she painted just before she was executed. She talks to a fortune teller on the street. Meanwhile Cha Se-gye is looking for the new face for an ad campaign for his family's business, Biojei.
Dan-sim is despondent at first. Her mood changes after a rain storm. She decides that Cha Se-gye must be a person of some importance and decides that he is the key to her making it in the new world in which she has found herself.
Dan-sim uses his business card to help locate Cha Se-gye. She works her way into the contest to be the new face of Biojei. During the contest she crosses paths with Cha Se-gye again. He keeps trying to get her to leave him alone but she is very determined.
They are outside the building when a lunar eclipse occurs and then a comet, which was last seen on the day she died, flashes through the sky. Kang Dan-sim is convinced that someone is about to try and kill Cha Se-gye. He doesn't believe her but moments later the body of a man falls on the car Se-gye was about to board, crushing the roof.
Thoughts
I decided to give this show a try and then I got sucked it. I couldn't stop watching. I have limited experience with K-dramas. I had to watch with my finger hovering over the pause button because the subtitles were sometimes hard to read and other times didn't stay on the screen long enough for me to read them all. I paused the episode a lot but usually only for a second or two. I'm almost certain that I will give the second episode of this show a go. It is scheduled to run for 14 episodes.
Both lead actors were very good. I like the mix of drama and humor. It is billed as a rom-com. I am feeling the comedy but not the romantic part of it. Maybe that will change in the next episode.
