Terror of the Zygons - Part One
The Doctor, Sarah Jane Smith, and Harry Sullivan return to Earth. The TARDIS sets down in the wilderness in Scotland. They get a ride to the nearest town from the Duke of Forgill. There they meet up with the Brigadier who explains why he summoned the Doctor back to Earth. A couple North Sea oil rigs belonging to the Hibernia Oil Company have been recently been destroyed under mysterious circumstances.
The Duke of Forgill makes it very clear that he cares nothing for the oil company before leaving. Mr. Huckle, the local manager for the oil company, tells the Doctor, the Brigadier, Sarah, and Harry what he knows about the disasters. He's convinced that something weird is going on.
Harry goes to investigate what is known about the bodies of oil rig workers that have washed ashore. He goes out to the beach to investigate and spots another man, still alive. He gets to the man who is killed moments later by one of the Duke of Forgill's men, who shoots him with a high powered rifle. Harry also gets shot but the bullet only grazes his skull.
Sarah talks to Angus the innkeeper and tries to get a feel for how things are in town, since the Hibernia Oil Company set up operations. Soon after that she is summoned to the oil company's sick bay. Harry has been brought in. She calls the Doctor after Harry wakes up to let him know how Harry is doing. The episode ends as a large, vaguely humanoid monster approaches Sarah while she is still on the phone.
Thoughts
I didn't buy the DVD or Blu Ray set for this story or season so I am watching this one on Tubi which means no extras including no commentary track.
A third oil rig is destroyed during this episode. Someone is keeping tabs on the Doctor and the others, from a distance. This someone isn't human.
The Brigadier was wearing a kilt in the first scene he was in but after that he is shown in his usual uniform.
It looks like Sarah Jane is having her first encounter with the Zygons as the episode ends. How long until the Doctor gets to meet one or more of the monsters? How long until Harry recovers? I assume that he isn't going to spend the rest of this story in bed.
This is a good start. I don't recall all the ins and out of this story but it follows a familiar pattern. I don't recall exactly what it is that brought the Zygons to Earth. Did they crash land? Are they there looking for something? I don't remember.
