Wonder Woman (2011)

Pilot

Wonder Woman aka Diana Themyscira splits her time between fighting crime and running Themyscira Industries. She goes after businesswoman Veronica Cale after another teenage athlete almost dies after using performance enhancing drugs provided by Cale's company. Cale denies having anything to do with the problems the athletes have experienced.

Wonder Woman takes a blood sample from a man whom she believes works for Cale. Lab results on the sample turn up negative but Wonder Woman later interrogates the man while he is in the hospital. She learns from him where Cale's lab can be found. he breaks into the lab and fights her way through about 20 men who are there to stop her. The lab gets shut down but Diana Themyscira finds herself under investigation by the Unites States Department of Justice. Leading the investigation in her ex, Steve Trevor who is now married.

Thoughts

This is the only episode of this show that was ever created. According to my research it was hoped that NBC would green light the show but that did not happen.

Wonder Woman definitely operates outside the law in this pilot. She is not a mirror image of Lynda Carter Wonder Woman. She tortures one suspect to get information out of him. I was expecting her to use her golden lasso to make him tell the truth. I was a little disappointed that there was no fight between Veronica Cale and Wonder Woman. I was hoping that Cale would turn out to be using her own strength enhancing products.

The episode is on a par with some of the WB shows based on DC Comics shows that I have watched such as Arrow, Flash, and Legends of Tomorrow. I didn't love it. I might have tried watching a few more episodes if there was anymore to watch but it didn't look like something I would stick with for very long.

Notes

Adrianne Palicki played the part of Wonder Woman. I know her best from The Orville. I have also seen her in John Wick (2014). I watched the first few episodes of Friday Night Lights but didn't get any further than that.

Cary Elwes played the part of Henry Johns, the CEO of Themyscira Industries. I know him best from The Proncess Bride (1987) and Robin Hood: Men in Tights (1993) and probably a few other things that I have watched in which he has appeared, but nothing that I have seen in the recent years.

Elizabeth Hurley played the part of Veronica Cale. Pedro Pascal played the part of a LAPD Detective Indelicato. I've seen him in recent years in The Wild Robot (2024) and The Fantastic Four: First Steps (2025). Tracie Thomas played the of Etta Candy. She was also in Death Proof (2007) but the only thing in which I've seen her in recent years was a few episodes of the third season of UnREAL.

The teleplay was written by well known screenwriter David E. Kelley. The episode was directed by Jeffrey Reiner who also directed a couple episodes from the second season of Fargo.
