Une explosion
or An Explosion
01 Sep 1944
Anselme is ready to order an attack once everything is in place. Antoine objects. He thinks they should wait. Anselme pulls rank and says that he's in charge. Raoul Germain, Marie's son shows up with some other troops that are brought in to support the planned assault on the school. Anselme and Antoine tell him about what happened.
Doctor Larcher finds out that Kurt has type O blood. Lucienne objects but Kurt agrees to providing a transfusion to help save De Kervern. The transfusion happens. Kurt has a heart attack but Doctor Larcher manages to revive him.
Blanchon has Xavier, one of his men, rig all the explosives they have in the basement of the school. Blanchon sends Alban to ask where their buses are and tell the Resistance about the improvement in De Kervern's health. Anselme doesn't want to talk to the militia. He fires warning shots at Alban who is forced to back off without passing along any news.
Jules Bériot returns. He is the acting prefect. He tries to talk about where things are at with Anselme but Anselme won't listen. He quits and takes several of his men, including Raoul but not Antoine , with him.
Bériot negotiates with the militia and with some help from Antoine he gets them to surrender. He promises that they will get a trial and they won't be lynched. They turn over their weapons. They are held in a corner of the schoolyard while a couple trucks are sent to pick them up.
Jeanine returns to the sawmill where she finds Raymond digging a grave site for Marie. She helps her ex-husband get the coffin out of the car and into the ground.
The trucks for the militia don't arrive. Bériot is tired and leaves Antoine in charge. Antoine passes along the news that they won't be leaving just yet. Blanchon notices that Xavier is missing.
Thoughts
They are really dragging out this stand off at the school. This episode does not live up to it's title. Maybe the next episode will start with a big explosion. U suppose that there was a figurative explosion in the sense of Anselme leaving with his men but that isn't what I expected when I saw the title.
Hortense, Heinrich, and Gusatve are not in this episode.
I can't figure out when Jules found out that Kurt was back. He senses that Lucienne is cooler toward him than he expected her to be. Later he is shown talking to his father-in-law. It is clear by then that he knows Kurt is back but it wasn't as clear in the earlier scene.
Raymond dug a really big hole for Marie's coffin. Where did he get the coffin from? The sawmill supplies wood but do they make coffins at the sawmill? He didn't look like he had been working very hard digging that hole, especially considering how big it was.
I'm not out of patience with this show but the last two episodes weren't as tense or filled with suspense as the first few episodes of the season. I'm going to stick with it but I'm losing some of my admiration for it.
