The Last Voyage
starring Charles Boyer
written by John Bagni, Gwen Bagni
directed by Robert Florey
The captain (Charles Boyer) of a cargo ship receives two telegrams as the ship is nearing Yokohama. The first informs him that there is a bomb aboard the ship which will explode soon after the ship reaches port. The second informs him that his wife has died. The captain confounds the crew by deciding to take a detour. It will the delay the arrival in port long enough that the bomb will explode before they get there. The crew wants to abandon ship but the captain has a plan to sweat out the man who set the bomb.
This was an okay episode. It was better than I feared it would be but there wasn't much suspense. I didn't think there was much chance that the episode would end with the bomb exploding.
Notes
This is the fifth of 30 episodes of this show that starred Charles Boyer.
Jack Lambert played the Chief Engineer. This is the only episode of this show in which he appeared. He also appeared in three episodes of Alfred Hitchcock Presents (1955). He's been in two movies I have watched in the past years: 99 River Street (1953) and Day of the Outlaw (1959).
William F. Leicester played the part of Wallach, the second mate. This is the second of four episodes of this show in which he appeared. The first was 1.02 Dante's Inferno.
Walter Sande played the part of Keating, the first mate. This is the second of five episodes of this show in which he appeared. The first one was 1.06 The Island. I've seen him in at least six movies but he didn't play a prominent part in any of them.
