The Twilight Zone 1.19

The Purple Testament

starring Dick York, William Reynolds
written by Rod Serling
directed by Richard L. Bare

Lieutenant Fitz (William Reynolds), a platoon commander serving with Company A in the Philippines during World War II discovers that he can tell when men are about to get killed. He tells Captain Riker (Dick  York), the company commander, but Riker doesn't believe him.

Thoughts

This was interesting episode. It isn't heavy on plot. The ending wasn't too surprising when I got to it. Most of the weight of this episode is found in the performances of the two lead actors. I think they were both quite good.

Notes

This is the first of two episodes of this show in which Dick York appeared. He appeared in six episode of Alfred Hitchcock Presents (1955) and one of The Alfred Hitchcock Hour. He is best known to me for playing Darrin Stephens on Bewitched.

This is the only episode of this show in which William Reynolds appeared.

There are three other actors in this episode that I recognized by name or by face: Barney Phillips, Paul Mazursky, and Warren Oates.

This is the second of seven episodes of this show that Richard L. Bare directed. The first was 1.14 Third from the Sun.
