The Phil Silvers Show 1.32

The Con Men

Doberman receives a check for $500. He goes into town and promptly loses the money to some con men. Sgt Bilko decides he must get Doberman's money back. He goes into town, dressed as a private and flashes a lot of money around. He quickly gets the attention of the con men.

Thoughts

Colonel Hall is not in this episode.

There was at least one inconsistency in this episode. Sgt Bilko already seems to know that Doberman was hanging out with people from his hometown before he tells him that. I don't understand how that can be possible.

This was a lot of fun and very funny. I love watching Bilko work.

Notes

The Con Men were played by Sally Mansfield, Grant Richard, and Danny Dayton. This is the only episode of the show that Mansfield and Richard appeared in but Dayton was in a total of 6 episodes, of which this was the first.

Sally Mansfield only worked in front of the camera from the early 1950s to the mid-1960s. Her last credited role was in 1965 on the Andy Griffith Show but she didn't pass until 2001. Her most consistent work was on Rocky Jones, Space Ranger. She appeared in all 39 episodes of that show.

Grant Richard worked consistently in movies and films from 1936 to 1963, when he died. He appeared in a lot of westerns. He most consistent work was in The Untouchables. He appeared in 8 episodes of that show playing a different character in every one of those episodes.

Danny Dayton worked consistently in movies and films from 1949 to 1999, when he died. He was in Guys and Dolls and made guest appearances on a number of TV shows that I remember watching when I was kid: Wonder Woman, The Incredible Hulk, M*A*S*H, and Moonlighting, to name a few. His most consistent work was on All in the Family (15 episodes) and Archie Bunker's Place (11 episodes). He played the same character on both shows.
