Skull Moon Base is threatened and almost destroyed by a great meteorite. It looks like the base is going to be destroyed when Commander Zegra in Saucer Beast Gera Gera shows up. He slices the meteorite in half and it only causes minimal damage to the base.
Gandal and Zuril are very impressed by Commander Zegra who announces his plan to destroy Grendizer. He has discovered Grendizer's weakness. The giant robot is vulnerable for a few seconds when launching from and returning to Spazer. Zegra plans to take advantage of that vulnerability and destroy Grendizer.
Professor Umon has discovered the same weakness. He pushes Duke Fleed and Kouji to train to perfect the duo of Grendizer and and Double Spazer. They train for more than 5 hours but are no closer to improving the technique of combining the two spaceships when Saucer Beast Gera Gera is sighted.
Duke Fleed goes out in Grendizer to fight Commander Zegra. Grendizer proves to be ineffective against the saucer beast. Kouji sees the battle and decides to join his friend. He launches in Double Spazer despite Professor Umon's objections that he is too tired. Kouji and Duke Fleed overcome their exhaustion. They join the spaceships together and defeat Commander Zegra.
Hikaru is in this episode briefly but Danbei, Goro, and Bantha are not.
I think its funny how Grendizer's weapons never seem to work when Grendizer first attacks a saucer beast. His blasts and blows bounce off the shell of the saucer beast ineffectively. When the moment is right it only takes a couple blows, if that, to take out the saucer beast.
This is an okay episode. It felt like a little too much was put into the exploitation of this weakness in Grendizer but it didn't amount to very much.
