An Unearthly Child
There are some minor differences between this episode and the pilot but nothing major. Everything happens in the same order with some things changed slightly.
- Susan does not mess around with an ink blot test
- Susan's clothes in the second half of the episode are different from the pilot
- Ian does not try to wrestle the Doctor away from the controls of the TARDIS before it takes off
There is a commentary track for this episode with Verity Lambert (producer), Carole Ann Ford (Susan Foreman), William Russell (Ian Chesterton), and Garry Russell.
They talk about
- Carole and Ian's earliest memories of Doctor Who
- How Verity chose Carole Ann Ford, William Russell, and Jacqueline Hill to be the Doctor's first three companions
- Their memories of Sidney Newman
- Their memories of William Hartnell
- The differences between the pilot and the broadcast versions of the episode
This is a slow start to the series by today's standards. It doesn't draw me in but I'm sure I would have looked at it differently if I had seen it when it debuted.
