The Island
starring David Niven
directed by Robert Florey
George Masterson, the owner of a South Pacific island and the company that employs most of the natives, is suspicious of Dr. Sydney Bartel (David Niven), the company doctor assigned to the island. George gives Sydney a couple days to clear out but then George gets sick. He needs Dr. Bartel's help to recover and tries to keep Dr. Martel from treating him. Dr. Bartel sedates and treats George, thus saving his life.
Thoughts
I wasn't terribly moved or impressed by this story. It isn't bad but I didn't find the central conflict to be engaging.
David Niven is the third of the four stars of Four Star Playhouse. This is the first of 32 episodes of this show in which he appeared. Prior to this I have also seen him in Bedtime Story (1964) and several other films which I have seen considerably less recently.
George Macready played the part of George Masterson. This is the first of three episodes of this show in which he appeared. He appeared in three episode of Alfred Hitchcock Presents (1955). I watched the second of those three episodes, 1.13 The Cheney Vase, yesterday. He played a smaller role in that episode than he did in this one. He also appeared in episodes of The Twilight Zone (1959), The Alfred Hitchcock Hour, The Outer Limits (1963), and Night Gallery. He has been in a few movies I have seen including The Big Clock (1948).
