Moonlighting 3.09

The Straight Poop

Rona Barrett visits the office of the Blue Moon Detective Agency. She brings a camera crew with her. She wants to get to the bottom of what's going on in the office, between David and Maddie. She tries interviewing David but he tells her that he will need to talk to Maddie. Rona Barrett relents and goes to talk to Maddie. She asks Maddie about her relationship with David, how they met, how things are going between them, and how she feels about him.

Rona Barrett leaves Maddie's office and talks to Agnes DiPesto for a few minutes. She asks her what it's like working for Maddie and David and about her relationship with the two of them. She goes to see David after talking to Agnes. She asks him about what it's like working with Maddie.

The episode ends with Rona bringing Maddie and David out into the office in front of all the employees of the detective agency. She gets them to apologize first to each other and then to the audience and she gets them to kiss.

Thoughts

Rona Barrett used to be a gossip columnist and television reporter. She was still employed as such at the time this episode was made. She retired from that line of work in 1991. She is still alive and celebrated her 89th birthday in Oct 2025.

The end credits for this episode last a little longer than usual. There are bloopers from previous episodes interspersed with the credits.

A good chunk of the episode consists of clips from previous episodes.

There are two people who appear in this episode, aside from Rona Barrett, who have not appeared on Moonlighting before. They are both interviewed, presumably by Rona Barrett. The first is Pierce Brosnan. Presumably he is supposed to be Remington Steele, the character he played on the show of the same name from 1982-87. He talks about Maddie as if they almost went into business together. The other is Peter Bogdanovich. He was in a romantic relationship with Cybil Shepherd from 1970 to 1978. He talks about Maddie as if she was a former romantic partner.

I enjoyed this episode very much. It was fun to see a lot of those moments over again. I don't recall watching this episode before.

This is the 33rd episode of Moonlighting. I am now exactly halfway through the series. At my current pace it will probably take me until mid to late 2028 to finish watching it.
