Scrooge (1951)

Scrooge (1951)

starring Alastair Sim
directed by Brian Desmond Hurst

82 minutes

Ebenezer Scrooge (Alastair Sim) loves his money and has no time for helping other people. Four ghosts visit him on Christmas Eve: the ghost of Jacob Marley (Scrooge's deceased business partner), the Ghost of Christmas Past, the Ghost of Christmas Present, and the Ghost of Christmas Future. He gets to see how he became the person he is today, how the people he knows celebrate Christmas, and what is going to happen if he doesn't change his ways.

Thoughts

Scrooge is the original title but this film was also released as A Christmas Carol.

I didn't recognize any of the actors in this film while I was watching it. I noticed after watching it, that Patrick Macnee, whom I know best from The Avengers, played a small part in the movie.

I've seen multiple versions of A Christmas Carol. I don't recall seeing this one before. If I have then it was a very long time ago, certainly not in the past 25 plus years. I've been meaning to watch it for a few years now. I meant to try and watch it before Christmas but I prioritized other movies over the past couple week and didn't get to it until tonight.

I thought this film was excellent. It got me a bit emotional at times. Alastair Sims was quite good as Scrooge. The supporting cast was also quite good.
