Doctor Who (1963) 12.05.X2

Cheques, Lies and Videotape (2009)

28 minutes

In 1983 the BBC released Revenge of the Cybermen on videocassette. It was the first Doctor Who story to be made available to the public in this format. Prior to the official release of Revenge of the Cybermen (on videocassette) fans had been trading videocassettes of episodes that other fans had tapes at home. A half dozen fans who lived through that time remember tell stories and recall what it was like.

Thoughts

This was a lot of fun. It reminds me of how I used to tape Doctor Who stories back then on VHS cassettes. I don't recall exactly how many I had. Most of the stories I taped were from the Tom Baker era but I also had a few from the Peter Davison and Colin Baker eras. I never got into trading video cassettes with other fans and don't recall that even being a thing.
