Alfred Hitchcock Presents 1.12

Santa Claus and the 10th Ave. Kid

starring Barry Fitzgerald, Virginia Gregg

Five-time convict Harold Sears (Barry Fitzgerald) is given a job (while on parole) as a department store Santa Claus. He doesn't really care for the job but he does it. Clementine Webster (Virginia Gregg), his parole officer, does her best to encourage him to he honest and avoid things that will get him sent back to prison. One of the kids who comes to see him, the 10th Ave Kid, isn't buying Sears act. Sears sees that the kid is headed for trouble and tries to do him a favor but in doing so Sears almost gets himself locked up again.

Thoughts

This isn't a bad episode but it is a very cliched and not in a way what I would expect of this show. It's kind of like an afterschool special.

Notes

This is the only episode of this show in which Barry Fitzgerald appeared and just one of five episodes of television in which he appeared. I have also seen him in Union Station (1950).

This is the second of four episodes of this show in which Virginia Gregg appeared. The first one was 1.04 Don't Come Back Alive. She also appeared in one episode of Four Star Playhouse and had a small part in a movie I watched a few months ago, The Night Stalker (1972).

Bobby Clark played the part of the 10th Ave Kid. This is the first of two episodes of this show in which he appeared. He had a small part in Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956).

Arthur Space played another parole officer. This is the only episode of this show in which he appeared. He was also in a couple episodes of Four Star Playhouse, one episode of The Six Million Dollar Man, and had a small part in a movie I saw as part of Noir City DC 2025, Mary Ryan, Detective (1949).

Justice Watson played the part of the story manager. This is the second of two episodes of this show in which he appeared. The other was 1.10 The Case of Mr. Pelham.
