After You've Gone
Rust and Marty talk over a few beers. Rust explains that he feels that they have unfinished business. He is referring to the case of Dora Lange. Rust is convinced that there was a third man in addition to Reggie and Dewall Ledoux, and he might still be out there. Rust's word and his impressions aren't enough to convince Marty. It isn't until Rust shows Marty some evidence he stole from one of the Reverend Tuttle's homes, some pretty horrific stuff, that Marty gets on board.
Marty goes to see Maggie. He asks about their girls. He also wants to know about what she told Detectives Gilbough and Papania. Later in the episode she goes to see Rust.
Marty uses the connections he has to get access to old case files. Marty and Rust work out of Marty's office. He's a private investigator in 2012. They are looking for anything that could lead them to the third man. They interview a cousin of Reggie and Dewall Ledoux. He's clean but he remembers the man with the scarred face, although he only met him once, two or three decades ago. They also interview a former employee of the Reverend Tuttle. She remembers the man with the scars on his face, thinks he might have been a grandson of Tuttle.
They look into Steve Geraci who used to work out of the same office as them. He's become a sheriff. Marty asks Geraci some questions but quickly comes to the conclusion that Steve isn't telling him everything he knows. Marty and Rust lure Geraci away from the beaten path so that they can have a more private conversation.
Gilbough and Papania go looking for the Son of Life church that Rust told them about. They run across the third man without realizing it. They ask him for directions and then keep going without giving a second thought to whom they might be talking.
Thoughts
The name Childress comes up a couple times in this episode. It first comes up when Rust and Marty are talking to the former employee of Reverend Tuttle. It comes up again when Marty is talking to Geraci. Childress is the last name of a sheriff. It might also be the last name of the third man that Rust and Marty seek.
This was real good. I didn't want to stop watching. There's just one episode left. It is still tough for me to foresee how it will end.
