Terror of the Autons - Episode Four

The Doctor shouts and the Brigadier comes rushing back into the lab and saves him from the constricting phone wire.

Someone spots the van full of men in weird masks. The Brigadier goes after them with Captain Yates. The plan is to have the RAF blow up the van with a missile after it stops in a quarry.

The Doctor and Jo stay behind. The Doctor studies the plastic daffodil. He tries to figure out what it does. It turns out that it is activated by radio waves. Jo almost gets killed by the daffodil.

The Master shows up at UNIT HQ and insists that the Doctor and Jo come with him. The three of them go to the quarry. The Brigadier is forced to call off the missile strike on the van. The Autons tie up the Doctor and Jo.

Neon Genesis Evangelion 1.07

The Works of Man

Shinji can't get over how big of a slob Katsuragi can be. Katsuragi and Akagi go to a conference where a new giant robot is demonstrated. Akagi expresses some doubts about the design of the giant robot. During the demonstration something goes wrong. Nerv is forced to step in and save the day. Shiji in Unit 01 and Katsuragi team up to stop the other giant robot.

Thoughts

This was decent. It helped to expand the world in which this story is taking place, a little bit. Shinji develops a new appreciation for Katsuragi. It looks like a new character, another pilot, is going to get introduced in the next episode.

Isabel Archer (Nicole Kidman) inherits a large sum of money from her uncle. There are two men attempting to woo her prior to this, Lord Warburton and Caspar Goodwood. She rejects them both and instead goes on a trip to Florence. There she meets Madame Serena Merle (Barbara Hershey) who introduces her to Gilbert Osmond (John Malkovich) whom she ends up marrying.

Things go downhill from there for Isabel. She attempts to have a child with Gilbert but she either miscarries or it dies very soon after she gives birth. Gilbert becomes very controlling and gets very impatient when she doesn’t do enough (in his eyes) to help marry his teenage daughter (from a prior marriage) off to Lord Warburton. Things hit rock bottom when he forbids her from visiting her cousin who is dying. 

The Tick (2016) 2.04

Blood and Cake

Arthur and the Tick go to AEGIS headquarters with a piece of evidence. They want to get it analyzed but the lab is shut down. Everyone is focused on figuring out what to do about Superian who just carved up a mountainside to look like himself.

Dot continues to train. Overkill comes by. He's impressed by her dedication but he's down in the dumps because he still can't kill because of the promise he made to the Tick. Dot finds a loophole and orders him to start killing again.

Arthur and the Tick get Danger Boat to analyze the evidence. The Tick says something about AEGIS to CB while they are waiting for it to finish the analysis. Overkill and Dot show up. DB starts playing McArthur Park and locks all the doors. They only have until the song finishes playing. Overkill tells them about the last time something like this happened. He was outside. DB locked the boat and purged everything inside. DB has PTSD.

The Phil Silvers Show 3.30

Operation Love

Bilko keeps the men of Fort Baxter so busy gambling that none of them have time to take their WAC girlfriends on dates. The WACs get fed up with this and transfer to other US Army bases. Bilko realizes the problem he has created and works to convince WACs from other bases to tranfer to Fort Baxter.

Thoughts

Colonel Hall is not in this episode.

I thought this episode was kind of meh. Bilko seems to have superhuman powers of control, first over his men and then over the WACs. It just didn't work for me.

Tom Regan (Gabriel Byrne) works for Leo, boss of the Irish mob. Leo is protecting a bookie named Bernie Bernbaum (John Turturro) from Johnny Caspar, boss of the Italian mob. Tom wants Leo to give up Bernie. Leo refuses. Johnny threatens to apply pressure if Leo doesn't hand over Bernie. Leo doesn't care. He's seeing Verna Bernbaum (Marcia Gay Harden), Bernie's sister, and he isn't going to give up Bernie.

A gang war erupts. Tom gets involved with Verna. Johnny tries to get Tom to convince Leo of the mistake he's making. Tom has gambling debts with another bookie that are getting out of control and he is danger of getting his legs broken if he doesn't pay up. Leo kicks Tom out of his organization when he finds out about Tom has been seeing Verna on the side. Johnny asks Tom to help him find and kill Bernie. Eddie Dane, Johnny's right hand man doesn't trust Tom. Things get crazy and stay crazy for most of the movie.

Harry (Ben Gazzara), Archie (Peter Falk), and Gus (John Cassavetes) lose one of their best friends. They start the grieving process by drowning their sorrows with heavy drinking. That doesn't numb the pain they are feeling. Harry suggests that they fly to London. He seems determined to go with or without Archie and Gus so they decide to go with him. They do a little bit of gambling as a casino. Despite all being married with children they pick up women and take them back to their hotel.

Justice League Action 1.08

Galaxy Jest

Mongul abducts Joker just as Batman catches up to him. Joker planted a bomb somewhere in Gotham. Superman and Wonder Woman go after Mongul and Joker. Batman and Flash look for the bomb.

Mongul kidnapped Joker because he wants him to amuse his troops. Joker tells all sorts of jokes without getting a single laugh out of them. Mongul decides to push Joker out of an airlock but Superman and Wonder Woman catch up to Mongul's spaceship before he gets a chance to eject the Clown Prince of Crime.

Thoughts

This one I liked, a lot. I love the combination of Joker and Mongul. The best part is that they aren't really teaming up. Mark Hamill returns to play the Joker for the umpteenth time.

Orange Is the New Black 7.03

And Brown Is the New Orange

Ward shuts down the SHU. The prisoners that are in the SHU are moved back to the cell blocks where they were before. This includes Red, Mendoza, Badisson, and Taystee, as well as a few more. Hopper objects. He wants to know how they are going to punish the prisoners without the SHU. Ward suggests that they should use positive reinforcement.

Fig is now the ICE Queen. Linda shows her around. Ramos and Flores start hanging out together. Ramos quickly learns that she has even fewer rights as an ICE detainee than she did as a prisoner. She tries various ways to get a message out but nothing seems to work. Everything does not go well between the two of them.

Flores gets the backstory spotlight. The focus is mostly on her relationship with Diablo, her boyfriend. Things go from great to much worse. He comes to see her at the ICE detention center and gets detained by ICE himself.

Batman Beyond 3.04

Big Time

Charlie "Big Time" Bigelow, a friend of Terry's, gets out of prison after serving three years for armed robbery. Charlie has some plans for a new heist and wants Terry to help him out. Terry owes Charlie. Terry was there too on the night of the heist that sent Charlie to prison but Terry was only 14 so he got a slap on the wrist compared to Charlie.

Terry talks Bruce into getting Charlie a job at Wayne-Powers. Charlie takes part in a heist of some chemicals from Wayne-Powers. The heist doesn't go as planned. Batman show up. Some chemicals spill on Charlie and he mutates. Charlie goes back to prison.

Schitt's Creek 3.05

Rooms by the Hour

Johnny, without realizing it, rents out three rooms at the motel to prostitutes. Stevie isn't quite so naive. Moira gets a call for an audition. Ted boosts the business of his veterinary practice by, without realizing it, exposing himself on the internet.

Thoughts

I laughed several times. Excellent episode. I love the misunderstandings and the reactions once Johnny and Ted realize what they've done.

Doctor Who (1963) 8.01.03

Terror of the Autons - Episode Three

The Doctor attacks the Autons in the front seat of the car. The Auton driving the car loses control and the car crashes. The Doctor and Jo get out of the car. They run and hide. The Autons come looking for them but then the Brigadier and Captain Yates show up. They are unable to destroy the Autons but they do manage to rescue the Doctor and Jo.

The Master, disguised as a telephone repairman, visits UNIT HQ. He replaces the phone in the lab and then leaves.

The Doctor and Jo go to visit the Farrel residence and talk to Mrs. Farrel. She gives them the doll that strangled her husband. They take it back to UNIT HQ. The Doctor leaves Jo to keep an eye on the doll. It comes back to life but Captain Yates shoots it to pieces before it can harm either of them.

Neon Genesis Evangelion 1.06

Showdown in Tokyo-3

Shinji and Unit 01 get blasted when they emerge from underground. Nerv recovers Unit 01 and Shinji survives. The Angel starts to burrow underground to Nerv HQ. Katsuragi comes up with a plan.

Unit 01 is quickly repaired. A giant gun is "borrowed" from the government. All Japan is blocked out so that the gun has enough energy to get the penetrate the Angel's armor. Shinji and Rei are sent out in Units 01 and 00, respectively. They use the big gun to blast the angel. The first shot misses but the second one hits its target and knocks out the angel.

The Tick (2016) 2.03

Hot Beige!

Arthur has a chat with Superian, in Guatemala. Dot trains by herself and then goes to see Arthur and the Tick.

The Tick talks recipes with Arthur's mother.

Overkill has a chat with Special Agent Tyrannosaurus Rathbone who suggests that Overkill take on a covert mission.

Arthur and the Tick go looking for Lobstercules. They get some advice on how to proceed from Flextron, a retired superhero. The advice eventually leads them to a gambling den. Arthur disguises himself and goes in hoping to find one of Lobsterrcules' henchmen. He does but then Ms. Lint shows up, in her new duds.

Ms. Lint claims to be a good gal now. Arthur doesn't believe her but he can't do anything about it and the Tick seems to assume that she is speaking the truth.

Powers 1.01

Pilot

Police Detective Christian Walker loses one partner to a powers, someone who has superpowers. His dead partner is replaced by Detective Deena Pilgrim. Walker used to be a power named Diamond but he lost his superpowers. Walker and Pilgrim investigate the death of Olympia, a power that Walker used to work with, when Walker still had superpowers. They find a girl, Calista, in the bathroom of Olympia's apartment.

Calista acts scared and tells them almost nothing. She doesn't know it yet but the man she was working for, the man who sent her to Olympia, was killed by Johnny Royale, a powers who is supposed to be dead. Johnny Royale uses his powers to discretely get Kalista out of the police station. 

Walker and Pilgrim go looking for Calista. They don't finds her. They do find some kids with superpowers but Calista isn't with them. Walker and Pilgrim go to a maximum security prison. Walker wants to talk to Wolf, who used to be his mentor. Wolf is in prison for turning to the dark side. He killed Johnny Royale but Walker now suspects that Royale is still alive. Royale was also a protégé of Wolf.

Actress Sheila Page (Joan Leslie) shoots and kills Barney (Louis Hayward) on New Year's Eve 1946. He had been having an affair with another woman. Paula Costello, the other woman, wrote the play in which Sheila was currently appearing on Broadway. Paula and Barney had been getting together behind Sheila's back for months by the time New Year's Eve rolled around.

Sheila wishes that she could have the past year to live over again. Her wish is granted although she doesn't understand how or why. Sheila does what she can to change her actions so that she won't be driven to kill Barney again. She has some success in doing things differently but most things stay the same no matter how hard she tries to change them.

Paula Costello still enters their life. Barney and Paula still have an affair. Things finally seem to break in Sheila's favor when Barney falls from a balcony and injures himself badly, something that didn't happen the first time around. He is confined to a wheelchair but he regains the use of his legs and decides that he wants to leave his wife and stay with Paula.

Things don't work out exactly in the end as they did the first time around.

Justice League Action 1.07

Zombie King

Solomon Grundy gets his hands on the the Star of the Dead, which once belongef to voodoo queen Granny Cottonmouth. Grundy uses it to raise the dead and turns them into zombies. Grundy plans to start by taking over New Orleans but Swamp Thing steps forward to stop him. Grundy and his army prove to be more than Swamp Thing can handle so he calls the Justice League for help,

Batman responds to the call and tries to get Constantine and Zatanna to join the battle with Grundy. They are busy battling Brother Night and unable to provide the backup requested but they do confirm that it's the night of the Crimson Moon, which only happens once every 100 years and that evil magic is particularly potent on Crimson Night.

Batman joins Swamp Thing in New Orleans. Together they battle Grundy and his zombie army. Zatanna shows up midway through the fight but she gets there a little late. Batman and Zatanna are transformed into zombies. It looks like Solomon Grundy has won but all is not lost because Swamp Thing has not been defeated.

Orange Is the New Black 7.02

Just Desserts

Ramos is out on parole. She hooks up with an NBA player. He wants her to travel with him. She can’t but she really wants to.

Linda fires Fig. She decides that it is time for someone new to take charge of Litchfield. Hopper applies for the job. He thinks that he’s got it. Linda interviews a bunch of possible replacements for Hopper's current position.

Daya isn’t sure what to do about her current situation. She feels guilty about what happened to Daddy. Adeola approaches her with a plan. Daya and Adeola reach an agreement and start to execute their plan.

McCullough gets the backstory spotlight. She flashes back to her time in the Army. She recalls how she tried to fit in and how she got treated. Her memories of those days impact her actions in the present.

Batman Beyond 3.03

Inqueling

Inque sabotages a rocket that is getting ready to take off from the Shimano Space Center. Batman shows up in time to confront her but Inque gets sway. Inque meets Winchell, her client, but he's changed his find about honoring their agreement. He blasts her with a high powered weapon that badly injures the shapeshifter.

Batman turns to Max for help finding Inque. Inque turns to her daughter, Deanna Clay. Deanna has problems of her own but agrees to help once her estranged mother agrees to pay her. Deanna steals some mutagen that Inque needs badly. Batman confronts Winchell, who tries to kill him, and gets the information he needs to find Inque.

Schitt's Creek 3.04

Driving Test

David is freaking out about taking his driving test. Alexis convinces him that there is nothing to worry about. Stevie is considering selling the motel. Johnny and Moira try to talk her out of it but it isn't until Johnny agrees to help her run the place that she changes her mind.

Thoughts

This was a decent episode. It wasn't the funniest but I enjoyed watching it.

Doctor Who (1963) 8.01.02

Terror of the Autons - Episode Two

The Doctor gets the bomb away from Jo and throws it out of the window. It doesn't blow up until it has sunk into some water. No one is injured. Jo is still in a hypnotic trance, even after the bomb blows up, but she eventually returns to consciousness.

The Master deals with McDermott, Farrel's second in command, by having him smothered by a inflatable chair. Farrel Senior shows up at the factory. He objects to the control that the Master is exerting over the company. The Master tries to hypnotize the elder Farrel but it doesn't work. The Master switches to plan B. He paces a plastic toy in Farrel Senior's car. It comes to life and strangles Farrel Senior after he takes it home with him.

The Doctor goes to the circus to look for the missing scientist, Professor Phillips. The manager of the circus catches the Doctor snooping around and with some help for the strong man he restrains him. That works until Jo shows up and hits the strong man over the head. The Doctor and Jo escape temporarily but a mob led by the manager of the circus attack them. They are rescued by two police officers who turn out to be Autons.

Neon Genesis Evangelion 1.05

Rei, Beyond the Heart

The story flashes back to the day (a few weeks before) when Rei was injured testing her Evangelion. Ikari, Shinji's father, put himself at risk and burned his hands getting her out of her damaged unit.

Shinji (in the present) wonders about Rei. He doesn't really know her very well. Some of his classmates notice him checking her out and tease him about it. He insists that it is just that he doesn't understand why he barely knows her.

Katsuragi invites Ritsuko Akagi, one of their coworkers, over for dinner. She gives Shinji Rei's new ID card and asks him to give it to her. Akagi and Katsuragi, but mostly Katsuragi, tease Shinji about the interest he shows in Rei.

The Tick (2016) 2.02

A.E.G.I.S. and You

Arthur and the Tick apply to become members of A.E.G.I.S. Arthur doesn't score well on the superpowers test. He registers as a zero. The Tick scores much higher. Arthur is convinced that he is about to get shown the door but Agent Tyrannosaurus Rex understands that they are a package deal. He allows  Arthur to join provided that he keep tabs on the Tick.

Dot has a flashback in a dream to the day her father was killed. She and Overkill wake up entangled on her couch. They return to Danger Boat. Overkill is getting ready to leave town and head to Havana, Cuba because A.E.G.I.S. is back in town. He tells Dot a bit about his past. She dresses him down for getting ready to run away and then leaves.

Miss Lint makes plans to improve her game. Superian gets angry about the drop in his approval rating.

Night Court 1.01

All You Need Is Love

Judge Harry Stone takes over as presiding judge of the night shift of the Manhattan Criminal Court. The staff he has working with him are a bit stunned by his unorthodox approach to his job. A case is brought before him in which a woman has been accused of attempted murder for shooting at her husband. She caught him with another woman, a prostitute. Judge Stone eventually gets the couple to talk it out and dismissed the case without rendering a judgment.

Thoughts

I used to watch Night Court when it was in its original run and in reruns. It was light and fluffy but I liked it. This episode didn't set the world on fire or really make me laugh very much. I think I might have seen it before, decades ago, but probably not when it first aired.

Convicted murderer Vincent Parry (Humphrey Bogart) escapes from San Quentin and hitches a ride with the first vehicle he sees. The ride ends abruptly when the driver figures out that Parry is an escaped prisoner. Parry knocks the driver out and takes his clothes. Another car pulls up driven by Irene Jansen (Lauren Bacall) just as Parry is trying to figure out what to do next. She helps him evade the police and takes him to her apartment in San Francisco.

It turns out that Jansen knows who he is. She felt like he got a raw deal when he was put on trial for killing his wife. She gives him some money and gets him some new clothes.

Parry gets his face changed but other things start to go wrong for him. His best friend gets murdered. The police assume that Parry did it. Madge, an acquaintance of Jansen and Parry, starts poking around asking questions. Baker, the man who picked Parry up when he first escaped from Sab Quentin, returns. He threatens to tell the police where they can find Parry unless he pays him $60,000. Parry has to think fast in order to evade going back to prison or keep Jansen from getting in trouble.

Justice League Action 1.06

Nuclear Family Values

Firestorm battles a team of androids (The Nuclear Family) who first take over and then plan to blow up the Hudson Nuclear Power Plant.

Thoughts

Batman, Wonder Woman, and Superman are in this episode at the beginning and the end but Firestorm deals with the villains on his own.

Firestorm's origin is revealed early in this episode. The Hudson Nuclear Power Plant is also where Ronnie Raymond and Martin Stein first combined into the being known as Firestorm. The origin of the Nuclear Family is also revealed during this episode.

Orange Is the New Black 7.01

Beginning of the End

Piper struggles to adjust to life on the outtside. She is living with her brother Cal and his wife. They have a new born baby. Piper's boss isn't very understanding, nor is her parole officer. Her father is unwilling to help her in any meaningful way. She goes to see Alex, who has problems of her own.

Taystee is back in prison, for life. She was convicted of murdering one of the guards. Suzanne wants to talk to Taystee but Doggett convinces her not to do it. Suzanne does talk to Cindy who still feels guilty about not testafyng on Cindy's behalf. 

Alex gets into an argument with Murphy. She tricks Murphy into getting into a fight with Taystee. Murphy and Taystee get sent to the SHU. Red and Mendoza are still in the SHU. They are in adjoining cells. Mendoza tries to engage Red in conversation but Red doesn't want to speak.

Batman Beyond 3.02

Untouchable

Batman tries to track down a villain with a superpowered suit. Terry spends time with Irene, a girl about his age whom he recently met. Who is the villain behind the mask? Could it be Irene? What about Dr. Blades, the man in charge of the research facility where Irene lives due to her medical condition? Could he be the villain?

Thoughts

This episode was better than I thought it might turn out to be. It's good but not great. There is a bit of bait and switch towards the end of the episode but that didn't bother me too much. I do enjoy the angsty episodes like this one.

Schitt's Creek 3.03

New Car

Johnny and Moira go shopping for a car. They try to pretend they aren't as well off as they look like they are. David helps Stevie deal with the passing of her aunt. Alexis learns some things about Ted that she didn't know before.

Thoughts

This one was lots of fun. I laughed a few times. 

Doctor Who (1963) 8.01.01

Terror of the Autons - Episode One

The Master arrives on Earth. He steals a dormant Nestene Energy Unit. He visits the Beacon Hill Research facility. He kills a couple scientists and leaves a trap for the Doctor.

The Doctor, accompanied by Jo Grant (his new assistant) and the Brigadier, visits the Beacon Hill Research facility. He climbs to the top of the radio telescope and receives a visit from a Time Lord who has been sent to warn him that the Master is on Earth and has left a trap for him. The Doctor disarms the trap and then disarms the super powerful bomb that the Master used to arm the trap. The Doctor suggests that UNIT search any and all nearby plastics factories.

The Master pays a visit to a local plastics factory. He identifies himself as Colonel Masters and hypnotizes Rex Farrel, the owner. Jo Grant is doing her part to aid in the search for the Master when she stumbles right into him. He hypnotizes her and sends her back to UNIT with a bomb. She is in the process of trying to detonate the bomb when the episode ends.

Neon Genesis Evangelion 1.04

Rain, After Running Away

Shinji takes off for a couple days without telling anyone where he is going. He rides the subway all over Tokyo-3. He eventually makes his way up in to the hills above Tokyo-3. Katsuragi is worried about him but doesn't know what to do.

Shinji runs into Kenduke, one of the boys whom he helped in the previous episode, outside of Tokyo-3. He shares Kensuke's tent but it isn't long before Nerv security find Shinji and take him back. Katsuragi tries to talk to Shinji into piloting one of the EVAs again but he refuses and chooses to resign. He almost gets on the train to return home but at the last minute he changes his mind.

Thoughts

Not a lot happened in this episode. There were a number of extended moments of time passing. This might be my favorite episode up to this point. I don't think I have seen any further than this episode.

The Tick (2016) 2.01

Lesson One: Think Quick!

Arthur decides that he is ready to be a part-time superhero. The Tick wants him to go fulltime but Arthur insists on maintaining his day job at Fishladder and Sons. Overkill asks the Tick to release him from his promise not to kill anyone but the Tick refuses.

Someone has sent a drone to keep an eye on the building in which Arthur lives. Tinfoil Kevin spots it. He points it out to Arthur when he is walking out the building on his way to work. Arthur, later that morning, is forced to choose between working at Fishladder and being a superhero. He decides that being a superhero is more important and quits his job.

Dot experiences a precognitive moment. It weirds her out. She tries to talk to Arthur about it but he is too busy to listen. She goes home and finds Overkill in her apartment. They wind up drinking together while she tells him about what happened to her.

Arthur and Tick go to the bank to deposit Arthur's final paycheck. The bank is attacked by super-villainous bank robbers while they are there. The robbers get away but the Tick and Arthur follow them through the sewers but are unable to catch up to them. Arthur and the Tick arrive back at Arthur's apartment only to discover Secret Agent Tyrannosaurus Rathbone waiting for them.

The Phil Silvers Show 3.29

Bilko's Chinese Restaurant

Bilko decides to open a Chinese restauarant after he learns that the father of one of his men, Hwang Lee, arrived in the United States years ago with just one dollar and now owns 10 restaurants. Bilko orders Ritzik to requisition the supplies they will need to stock the kitchen of the restaurant. The Pentagon hears about the kind of food Ritzik has been requisitioning and decides that Bilko's unit should be moved to a remote Chinese island to replace a unit that is due to rotate back to the United States. Bilko is forced to think fast and cook up a scheme to convince the Pentagon that his unit is a poor choice for the assignment.

Hunt Stevenson (Michael Keaton) convinces the executives of Assan, a Japanese car company, to buy the existing but recently shut down car plant in his hometown of Hadleyville, PA. Everything does not go smoothly. The cultural differences keep the locals who work in the plant and the Japanese managers who run the plant from seeing eye to eye.

Hunt gets caught in the middle. He tries to make a deal to get the workers to out in extra hours but that leads to a misunderstanding (after he lies to the workers) that just makes things worse. Takahara Kazihiro (Gedde Watanabe), the manager of the plant, has a similar but not identical experience as his second in command reports back to his boss in Japan everything that is going wrong.

Justice League Action 1.05

Follow that Space Cab!

Lobo attacks Superman while he is escorting Mr. Mind to prison. Space Cabbie gets caught in the middle of the dispute. Superman needs a little help and puts out a distress call. Hawkman answers the call and quickly joins the Man of Steel. Space Cabbie is left to deal with Mr. Mind who escapes into the dashboard of the Space Cab.

Thoughts

This was fun. I don't recall seeing Space Cabbie before in any cartoons.

The meeting at Marie Germain's farm is interrupted by a knock at the door. Marie let's Rita in to her home. Rita explains who she is and that she needs help getting to Switzerland. Rita recognizes Crémieux and tells the others about how she saw him at the police station talking to Marchetti.

Marchetti tries once again to talk Servier into calling off the attack on the farm. He refuses so Marchetti runs and tells Müller about what is going on. Müller is interested and goes to the stakeout operation and takes over. He brings in a couple units of SS troops.

Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) evades the police and outlaws in his quest to escape from Albuquerque, NM in the wake of the events of the Breaking Bad series finale. Jesse flashes back numerous times to a weekend while he was still a prisoner of the neo-nazi thugs that held him prisoner for months. He helped Todd during that weekend with a personal matter and learned something that later proved to be useful once he escaped from the compound.

Cybermen: The Extended Edition (2010)

This examination of the history, variations, and capabilities of the Cybermen was hosted by writer and historian Matthew Sweet. It uses footage and examples from every story that the Cybermen appeared in up to the time that this feature was made. Most of the examples are from the classic series but there are also some from the early seasons of the 2005 incarnation of Doctor Who.

There was more than one Cyberman origin story and this feature takes a look at all of them including the origin story from the old Target novelizations of Classic Doctor Who.

Thoughts

This was a lot of fun and makes me realize that there are quite a few Cybermen stories that I have not seen.

Schitt's Creek 3.02

The Throuple

David and Stevie experience a bit of confusion over the status of their relationships with Jake and each other. Alexis and Moira have lunch together even though both of them are nervous about spending time together. Johnny helps out at the cafe.

Thoughts

Still good, still funny in an uncomfortable sort of way. I have to wonder if Moira and Alexis lunch will bear any fruit or is it just a one off. Despite the title of the episode, they (David, Stevie, Jake) don't seem like a throuple at this point.

The Silent Phone

Shinji practices in a EVA simulator. Katsuragi gets Shinji a mobile phone but he doesn't use it and no one calls him. He goes to school the next day. A rumor spreads that he is the pilot of the new robot. The sister of Toji, one of Shinji's classmates, was injured during the Shinji's first battle with an angel. Toji takes his anger out on Shinji.

Another Angel attacks Tokyo-3. Shinji is sent out to deal with it. Toji and another student sneak outside to get a look at the battle. They almost get killed. Shinji saves them and just barely defeats the latest Angel. 

The episode ends with Toji trying to call Shinji because Shinji hasn't been to school since the fight with the second Angel and he's concerned about him and feels bad about what he did.

The Bear 1.01

System

Carmy takes over the restaurant that his recently deceased brother used to run. He spends the whole episode getting ready for opening the restaurant on the day of a video game tournament. He hires a new employee and deals with all the existing employees, one of whom gives him considerably more flack that the others. 

Thoughts

The restaurant is not upscale. It is a neighborhood joint.

I'm not sure what to make of this show. It has been running for three seasons. This episode didn't win me over or scare me away. I'm undecided about this show. I was hoping it would speak to me more than it did.
