Bleach 30 / 2.10

Renji's Confrontation

Word spreads within the Seireitei about what happened to the three shinigami who encountered the ryoka (outsiders) and about the decimation of 11th squad. 

Hanataro leads Ichigo and Ganju through the sewers below the Seireitei and explains to them why he’s helping them. He tells them about all the things he learned from Rukia while cleaning her jail cell.

Ichigo, Ganju, and Hanataro emerge from the sewers only to find someone waiting for them, Renji. Ichigo’s spirit energy starts to rise as he gets ready to clash with Renji. Ichigo’s friends in other parts of the Seireitei (Chard, Orihime, Uryū) sense Ichigo’s spirit energy and rush to find him.

Ichigo and Renji begin fighting. Renji explains as the fight begins that he is considerably stronger than he was when they last fought. Ichigo is not phased by the reveal.

Butterfly 1.06

Annyeong

David grabs someone else’s motorcycle and chases after Gun and Rebecca. Gun gets away after David crashes the motorcycle. David turns to his father-in-law for help in getting Rebecca back. His father-in-law agrees to provide the sort of logistical support that David needs but only if David is willing to do him a favor in return.

Juno has a talk with Rebecca. She wants Rebecca back on her side. She tries to convince Rebecca that David is bad news and that only she cares for Rebecca as she is. Rebecca accepts Juno’s offer.

Make-Up

Paddy (Billy Crystal) buys a make-up kit that used to belong to Lamont Tremayne, an actor who was known as The Man of 100 Faces. Paddy uses the kit (which seems to have a life of its own at times) to get him out of more than one scrape with nightclub owner Roland (Brian Dennehy) and his henchmen.

Thoughts

I didn't recognize any of the actors other than the two mentioned above.

An astronaut leaves Earth in the year 1963 and accidentally travels through time. He arrives back on Earth in the year 2148 only to find it devastated. He meets Andro (Martin Landau), a hideously deformed man, who tells him about Bertram Cabot, Jr., the scientist who is to blame for what happened to the Earth.

Little Orphan Airplane

A United States spy plane crash lands in Katara, an African country. Steve parachutes into Katara and begins his search for the missing plane and the photographs that the pilot took. The pilot himself is assumed to be dead.

Steve is spotted by a farmer sends who sends his son to report the sighting to the Kataran army. Steve meets a couple of Dutch nuns (Sister Annett and Sister Terese) who lead him to Josh Perkins, the pilot of the spy plane. Perkins is injured. The nuns helped him to hide the damaged airplane.

Warrant Officer Paparelli

Sgt Bilko pulls more than a few stunts to get Pvt Paparelli awarded a commission so that he can become the platoon’s new commander. Paparelli turns on Bilko, after he becomes Warrant Officer Paparelli, which leads Bilko to pull another stunt which gets Paparelli reduced in rank back to private. 

Thoughts

There was a pretty good episode. It didn't overwhelm me with greatness but it was all of one piece and wasn't all over the place as this show can be sometimes.

Teen Titans 4.13

The End - Part 3

Starfire, Cyborg, and Beast Boy continue to fight their evil doppelgangers without much success. It isn't until they finally try something different that they have are able to beat them.

Robin tries to earn the young Raven's trust. She runs away from him at first but he runs after her. Eventually she gives him a chance but she is still plagued with doubts.

This was my second time watching High and Low (1963) in a little over a year. The previous time I watched it on DVD. This time I saw it at the AFI Silver Theater. I was concerned that it might not impress me as much as it did the first time around. That was not the case. I was once again moved and amazed by most everything about this movie from the way it was shot, to the performances by the cast, to the pacing and the way it changes focus in the second half of the movie.

The Best of Both Worlds, Part II

The Enterprise tries using the weapon that Geordi developed but it proves to be useless. Locutus explains that the Borg now have all the knowledge that Picard had.

The senior bridge staff have a conference call with Admiral Hansen. Riker is given a field promotion to the rank of captain and given command of the Enterprise. Repairs begins right away on the Enterprise. The Federation plans to make a stand near Wolf 359.

Better Call Saul 6.04

Hit and Run

Jimmy uses the duplicate set of keys he had made for Howard’s car. He steals Howard’s car while Howard is meeting with his therapist. He collaborates with Kim and together they stage an act that looks like Howard kicking a prostitute out his car, where Cliff Davis can see it. 

Kim starts to wonder if she is being followed. She confronts two men who she suspects of following her. They apologize and leave but admit to nothing. Jimmy starts to get the cold shoulder from everyone at the courthouse. One of the public defenders tells him that it’s because of his association with a drug cartel murderer.

Superman (David Corenswet) gets beat up by a supervillain named the Hammer of Boravia while the country of Boravia is threatening to invade Jarhanpur, one of its neighbors. The masked villain turns out to be working for Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) who is in turn working with the Boravian president. The Hammer of Boravia is actually Ultraman, one of Luthor's superpowered lackeys.

Presents and Clear Danger

Someone returns Elliott's watch but they place it in Charles' room. Charles puts it somewhere else, where the cleaning crew will find it. Charles picks up on the fact that Gladys, his neighbor, has memory problems. He tries to help her but she doesn't care for what he is doing. He backs off reluctantly from helping her.

Elliott learns that he has cancer for (at least) the second time. He tries proposing to Virginia in a ham fisted way. She declines his offer but later, after he has apologized, she proposes to him. He says yes.

Bleach 29 / 2.09

Breakthrough! The Shinigami's Encompassing Net

Uryū Ishida finishes the fight with Jirōbō Ikkanzaka by dealing him a devastating blow. He gave the giant Shinigami the opportunity to retreat but Jirōbō instead turned on Orihime. Uryū couldn't stand for that and took action.

Ichigo and Ganju finally meet up again. Both are being chased by squads of Shinigami. Hanatarō Yamada stumbles into the space where the Ichigo, Ganju, and 11th squad are getting ready to fight. Ichigo and Ganju try to use Hanatarō as a hostge but he's from 4th squad so the other Shinigami could care less what happens to him. 

Doctor Who (1963) 12.05.04

Revenge of the Cybermen - Part Four

Lester gets to Harry before he can make any progress with the harness and explains to him what will happen if he unlocks it. The Doctor wakes up and agrees with Lester's assessment of the situation.

The Doctor, Lester, and Harry go after the two Cybermen on Voga. The Doctor and Harry try to use gold dust on them but the Cybermen overpower them before they can hit them with the gold dust. Lester attacks the cybermen and blows himself by up unlocking his harness. Both Cybermen and Lester are killed in the blast.

Mr. Graham (Charles Boyer) pretends like he has a wife, Geraldine. He keeps everyone in the dark about the fact that Geraldine is a fiction including the Rose Barton (Una Merkel), his landlady, and J.R. Martin (Porter Hall), his boss.

People start to suspect that Graham murdered his wife when they are unable to find her, after he was hit by a car. His boss sends a private investigator around to figure out what happened to Geraldine. Graham's landlady helps him deal with the private investigator after Graham tells her the truth about his situation.

Manhunt

The Enterprise takes on board two members of the Antedian delegation who (despite being in a state of hibernation) are on their way to the peace conference on Pacifica. Another vessel hails the Enterprise as it is getting ready to leave for Pacifica. It has another passenger for them, Ambassador Lwaxana Troi.

Captain Picard begrudgingly welcomes Ambassador Troi aboard the Enterprise. She invites him to dinner. He thinks that all of the senior bridge crew will be in attendance but when he gets there he finds out that he is the only guest.

They ride around in circles until they find a spirit of the forest who tells them about their futures. The spirit vanishes suddenly and they resume their journey through the forest. They laugh about the future that the forest spirit foretold as they eventually make their way to Spider's Web Castle.

Seoul

David and Rebecca spy on Juno and Oliver from a distance. Father and daughter break in after mother and son leave Oliver’s apartment. They plant surveillance tech which they hope Oliver will find and conclude that Juno is spying on him. Juno turns Oliver over to her right hand man for debriefing.

Oliver returns to his apartment and finds the tech that David and Rebecca planted. David convinces Senator Dawson that there must be a mole on his team and then helps him to figure out who that person is.

David and Rebecca trick Oliver into thinking that his mother wants him dead. Oliver contacts Senator Dawson and, after some negotiations, agrees to testify against Juno.

The first act ends with him leaving his son behind and leaving with a woman who tells him that he needs to defeat the four masters. One by one he finds the four masters and defeats them. Each of the masters is different. The woman, who insisted that he needed to defeat them all, shoots him and leaves him for dead.

Billy Meekin, Jimmie's business partner, tries to help him find a bride in a hurry by getting a story run in the afternoon newspaper. Hundreds of women show up eager to marry Jimmie which leads to chase scene that goes on and on.

Rock and Hard Place

The truck Nacho is driving is too beat up and moving too slowly for him to hope to stay ahead of the Twins. He pulls over and hides well enough to evade capture although the Twins do stop and almost find him. He makes his way to a garage in the middle of nowhere. He cleans up with garage owners blessing and then makes a couple phone calls: one to his father and the other to Mike. 

Jimmy and Kim continue to refine their plans for Howard. Kim runs into Assistant District Attorney Suzanne Ericsen at the courthouse. Suzanne explains to Kim that they know de Guzman was actually Eduardo Salamanca. She also tells her that Lalo is dead. The DA’s office wants Jimmy to come in and tell them what he knows about Eduardo.

The End - Part 2

Trigon devastates the Earth. Robin, Starfire, Cyborg, and Beast Boy try attacking Trigon, without success. They think that they are the only ones left alive, who hasn't been turned to stone, but then Slade steps out of the shadows. He says that they need to work together.

Robin and Slade go on a mission. They fight Trigon's fire demons. Slade explains what happened to him after the end of Season 2 and how he came to work for Trigon.

Harold Lamb (Harold Lloyd) enrolls at Tate University. He expects that it will be just like a movie he saw. He meets Peggy (Jobyna Ralston) on the train ride to Tate and later winds up staying in her mother's boarding house. There is a mutual attraction but Harold is also very caught up in trying to make a name for himself on campus.

The College Cad has Harold's number from early on. He picks on Harold quite a bit but Harold is so upbeat and chipper that he doesn't take note of the abuse that is being heaped on him. The football coach only lets Harold on the team because he makes a good football tackling dummy. Peggy does her best to keep the truth from Harold about what others think of him. Harold, in the end, gets to be the big hero and score the winning touchdown in a football game.

Sir Basil Tuton (Michael Aldridge) and his wife Natalie (Joan Collins) Turton have a few guests over for the weekend. She cavorts around with the other male guests. Natalia is in mid cavort when she gets her head stuck in a sculpture. Basil's had about enough and takes extreme measure to get her free from his sculpture.

Thoughts

There really wasn't enough to this episode for me to care one way or another how it ended. It was okay but like most of the other episodes of this show it left me shrugging my shoulders.

Bleach 28 / 2.08

Orihime Targeted

Ganju pulls off enough tricks to defeat Yumichika Ayasegawa. Ichigo looks for Gangju without success. Orihime and Uryū battle a very large Shinnigami, Jirōbō Ikkanzaka. He seems to have the advantage at first but Uryū quickly proves that he is the superior warrior. Hanatarō tries to get into the tower to see Rukia but the guards won't let him. She continues to languish in the tower.

Thoughts

There are brief glimpses of Chad and Yoruichi but not much more than that. Ichigo spends most of the episode running around looking for Ganju and and fighting low level Shinnigami.

This was an okay episode. I liked the fight between Ganju and Ayasegawa but the other fight didn't pull me in quite so much. It all happened too fast.

Patriot 1.01

Milwaukee, America

John is a disgraced former intelligence operative. He killed the wrong person once and has been in a funk ever since. He’s married and he's from Texas but he’s been living alone in Amsterdam. John takes a job working for his father, who also works in the intelligence arena. All John has to is take some money from Milwaukee to Luxembourg and from there to Iran. The money is supposed to facilitate the purchase of an election.

John gets a job working for a construction firm based out of Milwaukee, with work in Iran. The job is his cover. He seriously injures the top candidate for the job. John loses the money after he checks the bag when flying to Luxembourg. Someone inspecting bags took the bag. John gets it back but a couple people get killed.

Walking Distance

Martin Sloan (Gig Young), age 36 accidentally travels back in time 25 years and winds up in the town where he grew up. He meets his younger self and his parents. He tries to tell his parents who he is but they think he's crazy. He tries to tell his younger self to enjoy life but only ends up spooking him. He discovers that it isn't quite so easy to return home.

Thoughts

I watched this episode once before, about 5 years ago. I didn't write very much about it back then but you can find my notes here.

Star Trek: The Next Generation 6.12

Ship in a Bottle

Reginald Barkley is trying to repair the Holodeck when he encounters Professor Moriarty. Barkley tells Data and Geordie about what happened. Meanwhile, the Enterprise arrives in the Detrian system to observe the collusion of two planets and the creation of a new star.  

Together, with Captain Picard, Data and Reg return to the Holodeck. Picard tries to explain to Moriarty that he can’t leave the Holodeck but Moriarty insists that he must. Moriarty walks out of the Holodeck, something he should not be able to do.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Painting Class

Charles gives Julie the rundown on the top three suspects he has among the staff of the retirement home. He then starts to look into some of the residents at the retirement home. Julie questions if he is getting too close to the other residents and losing the objective perspective he needs.

Charles gets involved in some recreational activities at the retirement home. The activities bring him a little closer to two of the residents: Florence and Calbert. He suspects Florence of having a gambling problem. He uses Calbert as a sounding board.

Didi seems to decide that she's learned enough about Charles and that he isn't hiding anything.

Doctor Who (1963) 12.05.03

Revenge of the Cybermen - Part Three

The Cybermen didn't kill the Doctor, Stevenson, and Lester. They only stunned them. The Cybermen attach bombs to the three prisoners and then transport them down to Voga, via transmat beam. They are ordered to make their way to the center of Voga. Two Cybermen are sent with them.

Sarah and Harry remain caught in the midst of the power struggle on Voga. Kellman beams down to Voga to check on something, with the permission of the Cyberleader, and similarly gets caught in the midst of the battles between the two factions.

The Doctor, Stevenson, and Lester follow the instructions they've been given and head for the center of Voga. They cannot remove the harnesses because the bombs will explode if they attempt to do so.

A Quiet Funeral

Marty (Robert F. Lyons) kills Charlie (Eugene Roche) but makes it look like an accident. Marty takes the money that Charlie had just collected for a job he did. Marty thinks he's in the clear but he plays it safe only to discover that he isn't free and clear of Charlie.

Thoughts

This is the second of three stories of this series that were written by Robert Bloch. I wrote a little bit about Bloch's credits in my notes about 1.02.A The Bogeyman Will Get You.

Star Trek (1966) 1.22

Space Seed

The Enterprise finds the SS Botany Bay, an old Earth vessel, floating in a region of space where ships from Earth haven’t travelled for years. 

A landing party consisting of Captain Kirk, doctor McCoy, Chief Engineer Scott, and Lieutenant Marla McGivers beams aboard the Botany Bay. They discovers dozens of humans in suspended animation. One of the sleepers starts to wake up. His sleeping unit starts to malfunction. Kirk breaks it open. 

The man is brought back to the Enterprise and taken to Sick Bay. Once he wakes up he insists on talking to the captain. Kirk vista Sick Bay but before McCoy’s patient will answer any questions he has a few for Kirk.

The Phil Silvers Show 4.23

Bilko's Ape Man

Colonel Hall places a new man in Bilko's Platoon, Private Forbes, who was a physical fitness instructor before he joined the army. Col. Hall's hope is that he will get Bilko and his platoon into shape.

Bilko doesn't care for the colonel's scheme and takes the episode in a different direction. He learns that Hollywood is looking for a new actor to portray Tarzan. Bilko sees dollar signs and quickly sets his sights on getting Forbes a screen test.

Thoughts

Bilko goes to some lengths to get Forbes noticed by Hollywood. One of the schemes involving him entering the Mr. Universe contest. Bilko hires a woman to scream and then faint when Forbes steps on stage. That woman was played by Lucille Ball.

Gwyllim (David MacCallum), following advice from Kathy (Jill Haworth) who has a crush on him, accepts a job working for Professor Mathers (Edward Mulhare), rather than return to working in the mines. Gwyllim allows the professor to experiment on him. Gwyllim’s appearance and abilities are transformed by the experimentation. He becomes smarter and gains the ability to read the professor’s mind.

Better Call Saul 6.02

Carrot and Stick

Mike, Tyrus, and a few other men visit Nacho’s place. Mike evicts the two women living there. They break into the safe and then replace it with another safe.

Gus examines the evidence from the hit on Lalo’s place that the Fédérales collected and then calls Juan Bolsa.

Jimmy speaks to Kim about how to proceed with the scam they are running on Howard. He visits Betsy and Craig Kettleman in their place of business. He tells them that he thinks they could bring a civil lawsuit against Howard Hamlin. They hear him out and then tell him take a hike.

Bleach 27 / 2.07

Release the Death Blow!

Ichigo and Madarame continue to fight. Both are extremely confident in their abilities but Ichigo is eventually victorious, after he wounds Madarame quite badly.

Chad moves from the place where he landed when he sees some commotion. A large number of Shinnigami spot and chase Orihime and Uryū. Yoruichi continues to make his way around unnoticed.

Ganju and Ayasegawa continue to fight. They fall into a pit that Ganju assumes is very deep but turns out to be just a trash dump.

Kyle Watson (Duane Martin), star point guard for his high school basketball team, hopes to get an offer letter from Georgetown. He thinks he’s got it all figured out but he runs into a few speed bumps along the way. One of them is Birdie (Tupac Shakur), the local gang leader who wants Kyle to work for him. Kyle is down with Birdie’s suggestion, at first. 

Tommy Sheppard (Leon), Birdie’s older brother, is one of the security guards at Kyle’s high school. Tommy was a star basketball player years before but the death of a close friend has caused him to retreat into himself and not pursue his dream. Kyle doesn't really give Tommy much thought until his mother starts dating Tommy.

Star Trek:The Next Generation 2.21

Peak Performance

Starfleet sends the Enterprise to the Braslota system where it will be tested in battle simulations devised by Kolrami, the Zakdorn master strategist. 

Picard selects Riker to command the Hathaway, the opposing vessel. Riker selects La Forge, Worf, and Wesley to be part of his team aboard the Hathaway. Riker challenges Kolrami to a game of Stratagema before the battle simulation begins. Kolrami beats Riker fairly quickly. 

Riker and the 40-person crew he’s selected beam aboard the Hathaway. They have 48 hours to get it ready for the simulated battle with the Enterprise. Wesley beams back aboard the Enterprise briefly to shutdown a science experiment that he forgot to shut down. His trip back to the Enterprise is a ploy which he manages to conceal from everyone, until he is back aboard the Hathaway. 

Butterfly 1.04

Pohang

Juno gets very angry over the disappearance of Oliver. Gun is found, alive, among the bodies of the other Caddis operatives. David, Rebecca, Eunju, and Minhee meetup with Eunju's parents who are in the import-export business. 

David and Rebecca play good cop / bad cop with Oliver. David gets him to talk. David and Rebecca take Oliver and head to Seoul while the others go into hiding. David gets a few minutes alone with Senator Dawson. David talks the senator into giving him a chance to prove that Juno and Caddis are working with the Russians.

David leaves Oliver where he can be found by Caddis. David warns him that Juno isn't very forgiving.

Tales from the Crypt 1.06

Collection Completed

starring M. Emmet Walsh, Audra Lindley

directed by Mary Lambert

Jonas (M. Emmet Walsh) retires after 47 years of working for the same company only to discover that Anita (Audra Lindley), his wife, has more pets than he realized. Jonas' can't cope with being at home with Anita and her pets most of the day. His stress level starts to rise until he comes up with a solution, taxidermy.

Thoughts

I liked the build up in this episode but the twist in this story was a little too sudden for me. It seemed to come out of left field. I think both actors did a decent job but the way the story was paced left something to be desired. It is a better episode than most of the others in this season but it still falls short for me.

Revenge of the Cybermen - Part Two

The Doctor escapes from Kellman's quarters. He rushes to save Sarah who was just bitten by a Cybermat. The Doctor kills the Cybermat but is too late to prevent Sarah from getting infected. He sends Harry with Sarah, who is unconscious, by tranmat beam to Voga. There is a piece missing from the tranmat device but the Doctor rigs it together good enough to get it to work once.

Stevenson and Lester hunt and capture Kellman. The Doctor asks him for the missing piece to the transmat beam. Kellman refuses to talk until the Doctor threatens to sick a Cybermat on him. The Doctor puts the transmat beam back together but when he activates it no one materializes.

Sarah recovers as soon as she and Harry materialize on Voga. Something about the act of tranmitting her from Nerva to Voga cured her. Sarah and Harry quickly get caught up in an internal squabble between warring factions on Voga.

The Cybermen dock with Nerva. They kill the Doctor, Stevenson, and Lester when they try to fight back against the alien invaders.

Callew is paralyzed in the accident and can't speak or do anything to indicate to the men who come by scavenging that he is still alive.

Bilko sees dollar signs after he discovers that the moonshine that Jenkins, one of the men in his platoon, is the secret ingredient to make a rejuvenating facial cream. Bilko quickly goes into production and sales mode. He tries selling it to the Deborah Darling company only to find out, at the last minute that the effects of the facial cream are very temporary.

Thoughts

Natalie Schafer played the part of Deborah Darling. She is best known for playing Mrs. Howell on Gilligan's Island (and its various spinoffs and TV movies). I've also seen her in Repeat Performance (1947).

I liked this episode very much and rate it above average.

Zhao Qiao (Zhao Tao) has a good relationship with Guo Bin (Liao Fan) her gangster boyfriend. Their world comes apart after they are stopped by some punks who beat up first Bin's driver and then Bin himself. Qiao, fearing the worst, gets out of the car and fires a gun in the air which gets everyone to back off.

Qiao goes to prison for illegal possession of a fire arm. She maintains that the gun was hers and that she just found it. She spends five years behind bars. Bin spends just a year in prison but he never comes to visit her in prison and isn't there when she is released.

The End - Part 1

Raven spends the day with her teammates. She makes them breakfast, they fight a bad guy (Plasmus) together, and then hangout after. Raven knows the Trigon is coming and that she is the portal that will enable him to come to Earth.

Raven's friends try to protect her but when Slade shows up with an army of fire demons they are no match for him. Raven has to step in to help her teammates but instead of doing that she neutralizes them and leaves with Slade.

Saul’s home, before he skipped town at the end of Breaking Bad, gets cleaned out by professionals who pack everything up and load it into trucks.

Nacho, on the run, calls Mike who gives him instructions. Lalo shows up at the home of someone he knows where he is offered breakfast and meets up with someone who looks just like him. Jimmy and Kim wake up and get ready for work.

Mike meets with Gus. Mike wants Gus to give the order to go get Nacho. Gus wants to know how it is that Lalo and the strike team sent to kill him could all be dead.

The Landlady

Billy Weaver moves from London to Bath for his job. He finds a room at a bed and breakfast. The landlady seems very nice but then, after Billy sits down to have tea with her, he starts to notice somethings that don't seem quite right. Her dog and her parrot are both stuffed. The two names on the register before his sound familiar. He swears he's heard them before but he can't remember where or when.

Billy starts to feel tired and overheated. He can barely keep his eyes open. The landlady helps him to his room. She puts him in bed, undresses him and then pulls out her tools.

The Emily Always Rings Twice

Elliott accuses Charles of stealing his expensive wristwatch in front of everyone. Emily comes to visit while Julie is visiting. Charles has to tell Emily about his working relationship with Julie. He is forced to introduce Emily to Didi and says that she is his niece Julie.

Julie (aka fake Emily) leaves but Emily (aka fake Julie) sticks around and helps Charles with his work for Julie. Elliott punches Charles in the nose. Charles learns that Elliott and Virginia were once married. Didi asks the a couple of the employees to see what they can find out about Charles.
