Better Call Saul 6.03

Rock and Hard Place

The truck Nacho is driving is too beat up and moving too slowly for him to hope to stay ahead of the Twins. He pulls over and hides well enough to evade capture although the Twins do stop and almost find him. He makes his way to a garage in the middle of nowhere. He cleans up with garage owners blessing and then makes a couple phone calls: one to his father and the other to Mike.

Jimmy and Kim continue to refine their plans for Howard. Kim runs into Assistant District Attorney Suzanne Ericsen at the courthouse. Suzanne explains to Kim that they know de Guzman was actually Eduardo Salamanca. She also tells her that Lalo is dead. The DA’s office wants Jimmy to come in and tell them what he knows about Eduardo.

Nacho makes it back to the United States in the hidden compartment of a truck. He gets a bite to eat and then sits down with Mike.

Jimmy hires Huell to get his hands on the keys to Howard’s car, make a copy of the keys, and then returns them without Howard knowing it happened. Kim breaks the news to Jimmy about her conversation with the ADA. Nacho meets with Mike and Gus to go over the plan for what’s going to happen when he gets interrogated by Don Bolsa.

Gus, Tyrus, and Victor drive Nacho is out to the desert to a meeting with Don Bolsa, Hector Salamanca, and the Twins. Mike watches from a distance with a sniper rifle. Nacho spills the beans (claiming it was Alvaro from Peru) who paid him, for whom he was working for years, to execute the hit on Lalo. He also owns up to being the one who switched Hector’s pills. Nacho then breaks free grabs Don Bolsa’s gun and kills himself.

Thoughts

That was intense. I wasn’t sure how it was going to go down exactly. It sounded (from the way they were talking about it before the meeting in the desert) like Nacho was going to be dead at the end of the episode but I wasn’t sure that’s where it would really end.

Now I know how it ended for Nacho. I guess that leaves Kim and Gene. I'm not sure how it will end for either of them.

Jimmy is in a tough spot with the DA's office. They basically have given him a lousy set of options from which to choose. He can say that he didn't know that De Guzman was really Eduardo Salamanca, in which case they expect him to tell them what he knows. He can say that he did know that De Guzman was Eduardo Salamanca in which case he is guilty of obstructing justice. Presumably Saul will find reject both those options and find another option.

On the whole this was an excellent episode but it was really sad to see how Nacho went out. At least it wasn't Mike who killed him. Nacho called the final shot but it still sucks. It makes me hate Gus that much more. Is there anyone who is redeemable or worth rooting for? *sigh*
