Black and Blue

Kim is still nervous. She wakes up early and looks out the window. She places a chair under the door knob. Jimmy wakes up. She tells him that she couldn’t sleep and decided to do some work.

Gus is on edge. He tries working the register but he thinks he sees something outside and tunes out everything else while a customer is giving him an order, including the customer. 

Cliff questions Howard about the incident with his car. Howard concludes that it is Jimmy’s doing once he hears that Cliff was meeting with Kim at the time of the incident. 

Jimmy hires Francesca to come work for him again. Kim has a lunch meeting with Viola, her assistant from Schweikert Coakley at the El Camino Cafe. Jimmy goes to meet a client at a boxing gym only to discover that it’s Howard and he wants to step in the ring, with Jimmy. Jimmy laughs at the idea but then gets in the ring anyway. Howard comes out on top in the fight. Jimmy returns home and tells Kim about what happened unaware that Howard hired a private investigator to figure out what he’s up to.

Mike goes to see Gus at home. Gus is still very much on edge. They go to visit the construction site, the future underground meth lab.

Lalo travels to Europe. He finds Margarethe, Werner’s widow. Lalo turns on the charm and gets her to tell him about Werner. The next day he breaks into her home, while she is at work, looking for information.

Thoughts

Francesca was last seen in an episode from season 4. All of her other appearances on Better call Saul were during the third season of the show. Viola appeared in five episodes prior to this one, five from season four and two from season five. 

It looked for a moment there like Lalo was going to kill Margarethe. Did he find what he was looking for in her home? Probably yes although it might only have been enough to lead him to someone who knows more than she did.

Is Gus going to stay in the construction site, for now? What role will it play in the rest of the season? What is next for Jimmy and Kim? What about Howard? How will things in that arena shake out? Will the Lalo and Howard storylines be resolved before the end of the season? When will Gene reappear?

This is another fine episode. I’m hungry for more.
