Star Trek: The Next Generation 2.19

Manhunt

The Enterprise takes on board two members of the Antedian delegation who (despite being in a state of hibernation) are on their way to the peace conference on Pacifica. Another vessel hails the Enterprise as it is getting ready to leave for Pacifica. It has another passenger for them, Ambassador Lwaxana Troi.

Captain Picard begrudgingly welcomes Ambassador Troi aboard the Enterprise. She invites him to dinner. He thinks that all of the senior bridge crew will be in attendance but when he gets there he finds out that he is the only guest.

Captain Picard understands that Ambassador Troi is making a play for him. He is not interested in her and calls Data to her quarters in the hopes of interfering with her plans for him. Picard later learns that the ambassador is going through a phase where she is very open to sexual relations. He decides that the best thing to do is make himself scarce.

Captain Picard retreats into the Holodeck 3 and the world of Dixon Hill. Ambassador Troi looks for a substitute for Picard. She briefly considers Wesley and Worf but decides that neither of them will do.

Captain Picard goes to Rex’s Bar where he learns that Jimmy Cuzzo is looking for him. Ambassador Troi sets her sights on Commander Riker. She announces to the bridge crew, without consulting him first, that they will be married once the Enterprise arrives at Pacifica.

The Antedians wake up. Riker and Data enter Holodeck 3 to let Captain Picard know about the status of the Antedians. Ambassador Troi finds out that Captain Picard is on the Holodeck and heads there herself. She loses interest in Picard and Riker when she meets Rex, unaware that he is just a hologram.

The Enterprise arrives at Pacifica. Ambassador Troi points out before leaving, that the Antedians are actually assassins who plan to blow up the peace conference.

Thoughts

I might have seen this episode before but if I have then it has been quite some time since I last saw it.

I wouldn't want to have deal with Lwaxana Troi but I enjoy watching her operate on Star Trek. There is definitely something about her behavior that makes me cringe a little bit. I'm sure that it made me cringe more when I was younger.

This isn't a great episode but I did enjoy it. I can see how some people might find it tedious or objectionable.
