The Six Million Dollar Man 1.05

Little Orphan Airplane

A United States spy plane crash lands in Katara, an African country. Steve parachutes into Katara and begins his search for the missing plane and the photographs that the pilot took. The pilot himself is assumed to be dead.

Steve is spotted by a farmer sends who sends his son to report the sighting to the Kataran army. Steve meets a couple of Dutch nuns (Sister Annett and Sister Terese) who lead him to Josh Perkins, the pilot of the spy plane. Perkins is injured. The nuns helped him to hide the damaged airplane.

Steve examines the damaged airplane and decides he can fix it. Perkins thinks Steve is nuts but after seeing Steve lift the engine out of the airplane with his bare hands he starts to reconsider.

Major Chooka and his troops show up at the mission, soon after Steve and Josh have left to examine the airplane. Major Chooka questions the nuns. They insist that they have seen and know nothing about an airplane that crashed nearby or a man who parachuted in to Katara.

Major Chooka and his men leave the mission but Major Chooka leaves one of his men behind to keep an eye on the mission. Steve spots Major Chooka’s lookout and captures him. He ties the man up but the lookout later escapes while Steve is busy working through the night on repairs to the airplane engine. The lookout reports back in to Major Chooka who immediately mobilizes his troops.

The repairs are a success. Steve, Josh, Sister Annett, and Sister Terese escape in the airplane just ahead of Major Chooka and his men.

Thoughts

I didn't mention it in my summary but Sister Annett is a big fan of Dale Robertson and his show, Tales of Wells Fargo. The episode ends with the two nuns getting to meet Dale Robertson who made an uncredited appearance.

The spy plane in which the four escape from Katara is made to for just one or two passengers. I have serious doubts about it being able to carry the weight of four people.

This was a decent episode if you can overlook how silly it was that Steve could repair the airplane engine with parts from an old truck in the space of less than a day.

Notes

There were a few familiar faces in this episode.

Greg Morris played the part of Josh Perkins, I know him best from Mission Impossible. This is the only episode of this show in which he appeared. He also appeared in episodes of Wonder Woman, The Alfred Hitchcock Hour, and The Twilight Zone (1959).

Lincoln Kilpatrick played the part of the pilot from who's plane Steve parachuted into Katara. I know him best from Matt Houston. He was a part of the regular cast of the show during the second and third seasons. He was also in Uptown Saturday Night (1974) but he didn't have a very big role in it.

Marge Redmond played the part of Sister Annett. This is the only episode of this show in which she appeared but she also made a guest appearance on an episode of The Rockford Files. She was in one episode of the Twilight Zone (1959).

Susan Powell played the part of Sister Terese. This is the first of two episodes of this show in which she appeared. This episode was her first screen credit according to IMDb. She was in one episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation, 3.05 The Bonding.

Reb Brown played a small role in this episode in a scene that wasn’t mentioned in my summary of the episode. This is the first of two episodes in which he appeared. He also made guest appearances in episodes of a number of shows I have watched including Kolchak the Night Stalker and The Rockford Files. He is best known to me for playing Captain America in Captain America (1979). I have seen him in two movies in recent years: Uncommon Valor (1983) and Fast Break (1979)
