Make-Up
starring Billy Crystal, Brian Dennehy
directed by Curtis Harrington
Paddy (Billy Crystal) buys a make-up kit that used to belong to Lamont Tremayne, an actor who was known as The Man of 100 Faces. Paddy uses the kit (which seems to have a life of its own at times) to get him out of more than one scrape with nightclub owner Roland (Brian Dennehy) and his henchmen.
Thoughts
I didn't recognize any of the actors other than the two mentioned above.
There are references to three fictional films that fictional actor Lamont Tremayne worked on in this story: Revenge of the Colossus (1931), Dame Fortune (1933), and Mr. Invisible (1932). Paddy uses make-up from each of these movies to help him deal with Roland and his thugs.
I wasn't terribly taken by this story. It didn't really intrigue me. The characters and the plot weren't very memorable. The characters all seemed very one note. Guy gets in trouble. Guy uses magic make-up to get himself out of trouble. There was no twist in the end.
Notes
Curtis Harrington directed both stories from this episode of The Darkroom. He also directed one story from an episode of The Twilight Zone (1985) and one episode of Wonder Woman.
I've seen both Billy Crystal and Brian Dennehy in a number of movies and a few episodes of television but based on my research this is the only episode of anthology television in which either of them appeared.
