The Phil Silvers Show 1.19

The Revolutionary War

Bilko finds out that his great-great-uncle Joshua Bilko was a Major in General George Washington's army during the American Revolution. Bilko decides that he has to change. He wants to become an officer and from now on he will do everything by the book.

Bilko is given some keepsakes that belonged to his ancestor. He reads his great-great-uncle's diary only to learn that he is more like his ancestor than he realized.

Thoughts

Frank Marth has a small role in this episode at Major Bilko's assistant. He made guest appearances on a lot of shows from the 1950s to the 1980s including 2 episodes of The Invaders.

The flashback scenes that relate the story of Major Joshua Bilko take up almost half the episode. Phil Silvers is the only actor to appear in the present and the past.

This was a lot of fun to watch. I love how they used the flashbacks to tell part of the story. It was a bit predictable but it was still fun.
