Sgt Bilko pushes Col Hall a little too far. He orders that Bilko shut down all extra-curricular activities (raffles, dances, card games, etc.) until further notice. Bilko responds by asking for a transfer to another base. He doesn't expect the colonel will approve it but he does.
Bilko reports to Fort Jason. It seems like heaven. No one tries to stop him from running raffles or card games. Bilko is replaced by MSgt Baycher at Fort Baxter. Baycher runs the men in the motor pool ragged getting it in tip top shape. Colonel Hall thinks it is wonderful.
Bilko gets bored at Fort Jason. The soldiers there are too easy to scam. Col Hall is overwhelmed with paper work thanks to Bilko's replacement. He quickly grows to hate the man.
Thoughts
On the DVD the title of this episode is The Transfer but on IMDB it is called Bilko's Transfer.
Bob Hastings plays MSgt Baycher. It is the first of 8 episodes of The Phil Silvers Show that Hastings showed up in, each time playing a different character. Hastings had a long career in television which lasted from 1949 to 2003. He was a regular on McHale's Navy in the 1960s. He was in 129 of 138 episodes of that show. He made an appearance on the Batman TV show in the mid-1960s. He had a recurring role in All in the Family (12 episodes) in the early 1970s. He made appearances on Wonder Woman and the Incredible Hulk in the late 1970s. He did a fair amount of voice work for cartoons. He was the voice of Clark Kent and Superboy in cartoons in the 1960s. He was the voice of Commissioner Gordon on Batman: The Animated Series and a few other DCAU shows.
MSgt Hogan, played by Elisabeth Fraser, makes her second appearance on The Phil Silvers Show in this episode. She previously appeared in episode 1.03 (The WAC). She appeared in a total of 18 episodes of the show.
I like this episode but it wasn't my favorite. I think I like the idea behind it more than I do the way it was executed.
This is the last episode on the third disc of season one. It took me six months to watch the first disc and almost two years to get through the second one. This one, by comparison, only took me two-and-a-half months. There are two more discs in the season one set and then there are seasons 2, 3, and 4. Each of those seasons is about as long as the first one.
