Jean (Jean Gabin), a deserter, arrives in Le Havre looking for transport away from France. He meets Nelly (Michèle Morgan) at a small run down establishment. Jean gets on the bad side of Lucien, a local wannabe tough guy, when he stands up for Nelly when Lucien tries forcing himself on her.

Jean and Nelly's budding romance encounters another roadblock in the form of Zabel (Michel Simon), her lecherous godfather. Jean books passage for himself on a ship headed to Venezuela but before the ship leaves the body of Maurice, Nelly's ex-boyfriend surfaces in the harbor. Jean immediately becomes a suspect.

Bleach 1.03

The Older Brother's Wish, The Younger Sister's Wish

Ichigo and Rukia rush over to Orihime's home. Sora, her brother who is now a Hollow, is there ready to devour her. Ichigo steps in and fights with Sora. Rukia helps to explain what happened to Sora.

Orihime admits that she is partly to blame because she felt like she couldn't go on without her brother. Her feelings and prayers kept him around but then she made new friends and stopped thinking about him as much and eventually stopped praying to him altogether.

Sora accepts Orihime's explanation and apology. He uses Ichigo's sword to end his existence as a Hollow.

Rukia uses some magic to make Orihime and Tatsuki forget what happened.

Justice League Action 1.26

All Aboard the Space Train

Space Cabbie helps Batman and Cyborg catch up to the Space Train which has been hijacked by Kanjar Ro. Space Cabbie in turn gets some help from someone who is already aboard the train but frozen stiff.

Thoughts

What was the mystery guest star doing aboard the Space Train? Why did Kanjar Ro and his henchmen hijack the Space Train?

This wasn't great but it was fun. I liked the reveal of the mystery guest. I'm glad I didn't read the description of the episode before watching it because it gave away the mystery guest star's identity.

Better Call Saul 5.04

Namaste

The episode opens with Saul in a pawn store. He spends a lot of time looking around. He winds buying three bowling balls.

Saul meets with two clients of his who went on a spree a couple episodes back and expect him to give them fifty percent off. He has to convince them to go along with his plan even though it will mean doing some time.

Howard invites Saul to lunch. He wants to hire Saul but Saul is very reticent to give him an answer one way or the other. Howard asks him to spend some time and think it over.

Jaffar (Conrad Veidt), the Grand Vizier, tricks Ahmad (John Justin), the king. Ahmad is forced to flee Bagdad or face execution. Ahmad is accompanied by Abu (Sabu), a thief. Ahmad and Abu make their way to Basra where Ahmad meets and falls in love with a princess (June Duprez), the daughter of the Sultan of Basra.

Jaffar visits Basra. He offers the sultan a magical flying horse if exchange for his daughter. The sultan agrees to the offer. The princess flees rather than marry Jaffar. Ahmad and Abu are caught by the sultan's guards. Jaffar uses magic to blind Ahmad and transform Abu into a dog and then throws them .

The princess is eventually found but she falls into a deep sleep. She can only be awakened by her true love. Jaffar tricks Ahmad into helping him awaken the princess and then throws him out.

She takes on the responsibility of raising Brightbill, a gosling whose parents she accidentally killed. Roz tries more than once to reach out to Universal Dynamics, the company that made her. UD eventually sends a ship to retrieve Roz but by then she has decided that she would rather stay on the island.

Interior Chinatown 1.02

Delivery Guy

Willis helps Detective Lee. She takes him to the police precinct but he can't get in the building. He tries several times.

Fatty, Willis' coworker who usually buses tables, is forced to wait on tables. He is very freaked out about it. He does his best and eventually starts to get the hang of it.

Detectives Green and Turner can't see Willis. He discovers this while they are having a conversation on the street outside the precinct.

Willis' mother gets her real estate license but no one seems to care including her nephew who owns the restaurant where Willis works.

Lana figures out who murdered a construction worker with some help from Willis.

Willis finally figures out how to get into the precinct. He gets some food from Golden Dragon and says he is there to deliver some food.

Bleach 1.02

The Shinigami's Work

Most things seem to be back to normal the next day. Ichigo discovers that he's the only one in his family who remember what happened. Rukia shows up at Ichigo's school the next day. She tells everyone that she is a transfer student.

Ichigo demands to know what she is doing there. She explains that she is stuck on Earth until her powers return to normal. She enlists Ichigo, once again, in the fight against the evil spirits known as Hollows.

Sora Inoue, the older brother of Orihime Inoue, one of Ichigo's classmates, returns as a Hollow. He died years ago in the clinic that Ichigo's father runs. It wasn't until recently that Ichigo was able to put the pieces together and connect that death with Orihime.

Sora attacks Ichigo in his bedroom. Ichigo drives him off. The episode ends with Orihime and Tatsuki, another classmate, hanging out in Orihime's apartment. They hear an ominous noise coming from another room in the apartment.

The Orville 2.02

Primal Urges

Bortus avoids Klyden, his mate, and indulges in sexual fantasies in one of the Orville's simulators. Klyden doesn't know exactly what Bortus is up to but he tries to kill Bortus. It is the Machlan way of divorcing someone. Dr. Finn saves Bortus' life. Captain Mercer orders Bortus and Klyden to go to couples counseling.

The crew of the Orville discovers a small group of people underground on a planet that is no more than a day away from getting destroyed by the star the planet orbits. The Orville contacts the people on the planet and plans a rescue mission.

A shuttle is sent to bring as many people back to the Orville as possible. Everything does not go as planned. Bortus' sexual addiction is partly to blame.

Justice League Action 1.25

Garden of Evil

Vixen, Superman, and Firestorm battle Poison Ivy, Harley Quinn, Swamp Thing, and a slew of giant plants while Batman works on cure to break Poison Ivy's hold on Swamp Thing. 

Thoughts

Heroes battle villains until heroes win. I'm not so crazy about this episode.

Thoughts

There are things here that I like but there are some fundamental things about this movie that seem to be missing. I like the tone of the movie. I like the idea of a movie about a killer who follows a code although this is not an original idea. I like the interactions between Ghost Dog and some of the other characters, especially the ice cream man, who only speaks French.

Better Call Saul 5.03

The Guy for This

Lalo hires Saul to be Crazy Eight's lawyer. Saul doesn't want to do it. He asks for about $8,000 for the job. Lalo gives him the money, in cash. Saul goes to see Crazy Eight. There are things that Lalo wants him to pass along to Crazy Eight.

Kim wants to do her pro bono work but she gets a call from Schweikart who got a call from Kevin, at Mesa Verde. She drives out to deal with a situation. There's a man who refuses to move. She tries to sweeten the deal but the man still won't budge. The man doesn't have the law on his side but he doesn't care.

Interior Chinatown 1.01

Generic Asian Man

Willis Wu waits tables at Golden Palace, a Chinese restaurant. His life seems kind of boring until one night he sees a woman get abducted. Lana Lee, a police detective, comes to the restaurant the next day. Willis talks to her. She needs his help with a case she is working. Willis is stunned that she's asking him for help but he agrees to do what he can.

Members of a couple of rival Chinatown gangs show up at Golden Palace later that night. A fight breaks out. The restaurant is wrecked. Willis holds his own in the fight, at first, but ends up getting beaten up pretty badly. The next day he meets with Detective Lee. He gives her a tea cup, which is a piece of evidence that she asked him to collect. She explains that she wants him to work with her to solve a case. The case is related to the disappearance of his older brother. 

The episode ends with Willis spotting the woman who was abducted. She looks to be in good health even though police reports claimed that she was found dead. 

Samurai Champloo 1.01

Tempestuous Temperaments

Mugen and Jin, two warriors of very different styles and temperaments, cross swords at a tea house. The tea house burns down. Mugen and Jin are arrested for pissing off the local magistrate. They killed several of his men before they started fighting with one another and the magistrate’s son was killed in the fire. Fuu, a waitress who used to work in the now destroyed rea house, offers to help them escape execution if they will put off picking up their fight where it left off and help her find a samurai who smells of sunflowers. 

Thoughts

There are 26 episodes in this series. I’ve seen it before, but it has been more than 15 years since I last watched it. There’s a lot that I don’t recall about this series. The rest of the series is about the quest to find the samurai who smells of sunflowers. There are side quests. I remember a little bit about how it ends but not much about the intervening episodes.

Neon Genesis Evangelion 1.16

The Sickness unto Death, and then...

Katsuragi is very happy about her relationship with Ryoji. Asuka doesn't like it.

An Angel materializes over Tokyo-3 without the usual detectable signature. The three units are sent out to deal with it. Asuka suggests that Shinji take the lead because he did so well on tests earlier in the day. Shinji is feeling confident and takes the lead only to be sucked into a pocket dimension.

Nerv and the other units lose all contact with Shinji. He is stuck for hours. His life support systems run out of energy. The episode ends with Shinji's unit coming to life, basically on its own and breaking out of the trap.

Inuyasha 1.11

The Terror of the Ancient Noh Mask

Kagome returns to her home in the modern era because she fears that she has missed too much school. Inuyasha tries to prevent her from jumping through the well but she uses the sit spell to stop him.

Kagome discovers, once she returns to school, that her mother has made up all sorts of excuses for why Kagome has not been to school recently, all of which have to do health problems. 

An ancient Noh mask which possesses a shard of the Shikon Jewel starts to wreck havoc in the modern era. It is drawn to the shards of the Shikon Jewel that Kagome possesses. All seems lost until Inuyasha comes through the well and kills the spirit animating the Noh mask.

The Day I Became a Shinigami

Fifteen-year-old high, school student Ichigo Kurosaki is trying to protect the ghost of a young girl from an evil spirit (Hollow) when he encounters soul reaper Rukia Kuchicki for the first time. Rukia is surprised to discover that he can see and touch her. She tries to protect him and the ghost of the young girl from the Hollow but she is badly injured fighting the evil spirit.

Rukia proposes that she use what spirit energy she has left to transform Ichigo into a shinnigami or soul reaper. He agrees but when she does he becomes considerably more powerful than she imagined he would. 

The Orville 2.01

Ja'loja

Bortus invites Captain Mercer and the officers of the Orville to Ja'loja, a ceremony on a planet of his choosing where he will urinate. Bortus and his kind only urinates once a year.

Kelly reveals to Ed that she is dating someone on board but won't tell him who. He finds out by spying on her but she catches him in the act. Her new boyfriend is more understanding than she is which makes Kelly angrier than she already was.

Dr. Finn's older son gets caught with a couple of his friends drinking vodka that they cooked up using a replicator. The parents of one of the other boys think that Marcus, Claire's son, is the one who rigged the repicator. She turns to Isaac for help.

The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes 1.01

A Scandal in Bohemia

The King of Bohemia hires Sherlock Holmes to retrieve a photograph of him with actress Irene Adler. The king is getting ready to get married and Miss Adler has threatened to make the photograph public on the same day that his marriage is officially announced.

Holmes uses some information that the king provides him, a couple of disguises, and some further subterfuge to figure out where Miss Adler has hidden the photograph.

Holmes and Adler arrive at Miss Adler's home the next morning, to retrieve the photograph and explain all to the king who has accompanied them. Holmes does not find what he sought. Miss Adler figured out what he was up to and has already left. She leaves behind a picture of herself, but not the picture that the king hoped to recover, and a note for Holmes.

Two years later Wade secretly returns to New York. Shaft finds out about it from Rasaan, one of his informants. Shaft arrests Wade but once again Wade is granted bail despite his past record. Shaft quits the NYPD, frustrated with the way Wade was treated by the justice system.

Justice League Action 1.24

Battle for the Bottled City

Superman shrinks down and visits the bottled city of Kandor. Brainiac picks this moment to infiltrate the Fortress of Solitude. The Atom and Cyborg are the only resistance he meets. Brainiac takes the bottled city for his collection, after dealing with the two heroes. Cyborg is immobilized. Atom recovers and uses a Superman robot to fight with Brainiac until Superman himself returns from the bottle and deals with Brainiac himself.

Thoughts

This wasn't bad but it wasn't the best. There was little to nothing in the way of character moments. Superman's visit to Kandor was cut extremely short by Brainiac's interference.

This documentary explores the music and delves a bit into the life stories of a dozen or more Cuban musicians. It followed a 1996 album of the same name which was brought together by Ry Cooder and Juan de Marcos González. The musicians interviewed and featured in this documentary include Compay Segundo, Eliades Ochoa, Ibrahim Ferrer, Omara Portuondo, Rubén González, Orlando ‘Cachaíto’ López, Barbarito Torres, Amadito Valdés, and Manuel "Guajiro" Mirabal. Joachim Cooder, son of Ry Cooder, accompanied his father on the trip to Havana and played drums and other percussive instruments in some of the performances.

Neon Genesis Evangelion 1.15

Silence and Lies

Katsuragi, Ritsuko, and Ryoji go to a wedding. Asuka goes on a date with a classmate's brother but she doesn't like him and ends the date early. Shinji stays home and plays the cello. Asuka gets bored after returning home and kisses Shinji. She decides after the fact that it was a mistake. Ryoji helps Katsuragi get home safely.

Shinji visits his mother's grave on the anniversary of her death. Gendo, his father, meets him there. They share a few awkward words. 

The episode ends with Katuragi finding Ryoji in the sub-basement at Nerv. He opens a compartment which reveals that Nerv has the remains of the first Angel.

Mike does Stacey a favor and looks after Kaylee, his granddaughter. Kaylee asks him a lot of questions about her father. He gets annoyed and yells at Kaylee.

Ian damages the bomb before it is in place and escapes from it before it is dropped into the ground. He then wedges some branches into the shaft after finding a door out of the shaft.

Barbara and Jenny are taken to the Dalek command center. Barbara keep the Daleks distracted while Jenny messes with the controls. The Daleks lock them up once they realize that they have nothing to gain from them.

The Doctor sends Susan and David to destroy some of the Dalek radio towers while he and Tyler head down into the Dalek command center. The Daleks that were in the command center are gone. The Doctor frees Barbara and Jenny, who were left there to die.

Dr. Bergner uses an experimental technique (which is approved by Oscar Goldman and Dr. Rudy Wells) to inject herself with some of the brain tissue from the dead man. 

Dr. Bergner gains some of the dead man's memories as a result of the injection. Dr. Bergner and Steve go to Lucerne, Switzerland. OSO Agent Mel Bristo is put in charge of escorting the ransom of $1 Billion in solid gold. While Steve and Dr. Bergner continue to look for the missing negotiator.

The missing man disappeared under circumstances which have left Thomas Sawtelle, the station manager, as the primary suspect.

Billy arrives in his airplane with Peg, his one-legged mechanic, who assists in the investigation. Finley Tucker, another pilot who hangs around the train station and has been wooing Ruth Sawtelle (Kathryn Boyd), daughter of the station manager, is one of the first people that Billy questions. Ruth fears for her father who passed out just before the money was stolen, and after he wakes up claims to have no idea as to what happened to the money.

Joan's Big Romance

Joan is sent to Chicago on business for a couple weeks. She leaves angry because Ernie lied to her about where he was going to be in the last hour before her train left. Joan takes advantage of some confusion on the train. A story is published in the papers that links her to a millionaire playboy. 

Bilko cooks up a scheme to win Joan back but she sees that coming a mile away.

Thoughts

Richard Derr played the part of the millionaire. I have also seen him in When Worlds Collide (1951). He also appeared in guest roles in  couple episodes of Star Trek: The Original Series.

In the late 1800s, Mark Bellis (Ray Milland) meets Olivia Harwood while traveling from Jamaica back to England. He has malaria and she helps to nurse him back to health. She recently lost her husband to disease. She is resistant to his advances, after he has recovered. Mark is persistent and eventually Olivia falls in love with him, unaware that he has another woman or that he is wanted for forgery and murder.

Olivia reconnects with Susan Courtney (Geraldine Fitzgerald), an old friend from school who married a much more successful man than Olivia did. Henry, Susan's husband, is very strict with Susan. He controls the money in the family and doesn't let her go outside. Susan drinks too much. Henry hires Olivia to come live them and look after Susan.

Justice League Action 1.23

Double Cross

Penguin hires Deadshot to capture Two-Face. Batman works with Firestorm and Plastic Man to capture Deadshot. Firestorm keeps an eye on Two-Face while Plastic Man impersonates Two-Face to lure Deadshot out of the shadows.

Thoughts

How is it that Professor Stein was there early on but then vanished when Ronnie decided to turn his back on Two-Face? I would think he would have counseled Ronnie against making such a big mistake.

Not great. The best part was the juxtaposition of Two-Face (with his two personalities) with Firestorm who is made up of two people, but there wasn't enough of it. The rest of the episode didn't do it for me.

Better Call Saul 5.01

Magic Man

2010 - Omaha, NE - Gene takes some time off from work. Someone recognized him. He calls the disappearer, who helped him relocate from Albuquerque to Omaha. He asks for help. The disappearer says okay and quotes him a price. Gene agrees to the price but moments later he changes his mind and cancels the request. He tells the disappearer that he will deal with it himself.

2004 - Albuquerque, NM - Jimmy makes it official. He gets the paper work filed to allow him to practice law under the name Saul Goodman. Kim tries to talk him out of doing it but he insists on doing it. Later, he hands out free burner phones to people that used to buy them from him. He gives away all the phones he has.

Dan Da Dan 1.03

It's a Granny vs Granny Clash!

Seiko Ayase, Momo's grandmother, returns home. She locks up Okarun so that he can't harm them. Momo tells her grandmother about what happened and how Okarun had a curse placed on him. Seiko tells them about what they will have to do to rid Okarun of the curse. She also explains to them that they will need to train in order to get strong enough to deal with Turbo Granny.

Thoughts

I'm not so sure about this show. I've read ahead in the descriptions of the manga and it does not sound like my cup of tea. UI don't think I am going to watch any more. I think that if I were a teenager I might be eating this up with a spoon but at my age it isn't quite the same.

Neon Genesis Evangelion 1.14

Seele, the Seat of the Soul

The governing council interrogates Gendo Ikari, the head of Nerv. They fail to find to find any evidence that anything improper is happening at Nerv.

Rei and Shinji are tested in one another's units. Rei doesn't experience any problems. Everything goes well with Shinji's tests, at first, but then Unit 00 goes berserk and has to be shut down while Shinji is still inside.

Thoughts

Major Katsuragi and some of the other regular supporting cast are also in this episode.

The first half of this episode was basically a recap of the battles with the angels from the first 13 episodes of the show.

Lola (Franka Potente) gets an urgent call from Manni (Morris Bleibtreu), her boyfriend. She was supposed to meet him about an hour earlier. She was supposed to pick him up on her motor scooter. He was picking up some drug money that he needed to deliver to his boss. He wound up taking the metro and accidentally left the money on the train after he spotted a couple police officers headed his way.

He can’t cover the missing money himself and is desperate. He’s sure that his boss will kill him when he finds out. He’s ready to rob a small grocery store. Lola begs him not to do it. He gives her 20 minutes to come up with a solution to his dilemma and meet him in front of the store.

Dark Winds 1.06

Chee warns Manuelito (over the radio) about Whitover, who is in the car with her at the time. Chee speaks in Navajo because he knows that Whitover is with her. Chee takes off, after he is done talking to Manuelito, and heads to the canyon where she and Whitover are headed.

Leaphorn finds the cave that Tzo and Nakai have been using as their base of operations. He gets trapped in a tunnel after Tzo and Nakai realize that someone else has sneaked in to the cave. They try to smoke him out.

Manuelito loses Whitover as soon as he turns his back, after they have arrived at the canyon. Whitover runs into Chee and shoots him. Chee goes down but the bullet caught him in the arm. Whitover leaves Chee where he fell and enters the cave.

The Waking Ally

(aka The Dalek Invasion of Earth - Part Five)

Ian and Larry escape from the Slyther by jumping into large mining bucket. The Slyther tries following them but Ian hits in with a rock until it falls deep into the mine shaft. The bucket starts moving and descends into the mine.

The Doctor, Susan, Tyler, and David descend into the sewers. They are followed by a couple Robomen. The robomen attack them. David kills one of them. The other one is knocked unconscious.

Susan and Jenny find a house. Two women are living there who make clothes for the people who work in the mines. They invite Susan and Jenny to stay with them but then they tell the Daleks about the two new arrivals. A Dalek comes and takes Susan and Jenny to the mine.

David and Maddie send Agnes to the California Investigators Association dance in their place. Maddie helps Agnes get dressed up and get her hair and make-up done. Agnes meets a man named Kyle at the dance. They dance. Kyle hands her a piece of paper with some numbers written on it and then he disappears.

The next day Kyle shows up at her office. He takes her out for a bite to eat, at 9 AM, in a bowling alley. There's a call for Agnes. She goes to answer the phone but by the time she gets there the line is dead. She returns to the table where she was seated with Kyle but he doesn't look so good and he has a knife in his chest.

Agnes goes to get the manager of the bowling alley but Kyle has vanished by the time she gets back to the table. The manager kicks her out of the bowling alley. She goes to make a phone call but two men are following. They aren't the same men that were after Kyle the night before.

Harold meets Mary Buckingham (Jobyna Ralston) while he is on his way to see a prospective publisher. Harold and Mary fall in love but Mary already has a suitor, Ronald De Vore, who puts his foot down when he learns about Harold.

Thoughts

I saw this movie as the front half of a double feature. The back half was Girl Shy (1924), another Harold Lloyd film. The order that they were shown in is not the order in which they were released.

Her eldest brother Mycroft, has plans to put her in a girl's boarding school and marry her off. Enola rejects this course of action and escapes to London to search for her mother.

Inside Job

Lex Luthor infects Superman's body with a swarm of nanobots. Batman, Wonder Woman, and the Atom shrink down and enter Superman's blood stream in order to help Superman's immune system deal with the invasive force. Red Tornado stays behind on the Watchtower in case anything else comes up.

Thoughts

This episode was okay. It isn't a favorite. There wasn't enough humor or character moments or interesting plot twists for me. I feel like I've seen this done before and possibly done better.

Here's Where We Get Off

Doggett is dead. The episode opens with her body being taken away. She is mourned by more than one person. Suzanne and Dixon are the two who feel it the most.

Luschek goes to Ward and confesses that he's the one who has been smuggling in the phones. He gets fired but charges are not pressed against him.

Mendoza gets out of Litchfield on time, without having time added to her sentence.

Red is moved to "Florida". Her memory is very spotty. She meets Berlin but doesn't recognize her until someone says something that triggers a memory.
