Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) flees terrorists in a time traveling DeLorean from 1985 to 1955. The terrorists shot and killed Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd), the man who turned the car into a time machine. Marty accidentally inferes with history and endangers his own existence by altering history on the day that his parents first met.

Marty turns to Doc Brown in 1955 for help repairing the time machine so he can get back to the future. Marty mentors George McFly (Crispin Glover) his father,  and fights off the amorous advances of Lorraine Baines (Lea Thompson), his mother, as he tries to get them together before it is too late.

Thoughts

I could have written more about the plot but I chose not to do that. I didn't mention Biff, the bully. He's a crucial part of the story but I don't think he is a crucial part of the set up.

I have seen this movie numerous times before but according to my records this is the first time I have seen it during the 21st century. I'm not sure that's true but that's what my records indicate. I used to have the complete Back to the Future trilogy on VHS but that was in the early 1990s.

I have never seen this movie in the theater, unlike the two sequels. I remember hearing about it when it was released but for whatever reason I did not see until after it was released on VHS.

There are a few things that go unexplained. One that jumped out at me this time was the way the car didn't work sometimes and did work at others. Another one is the week that flies by in 1955 with out any real attempt to explain what days things are happening. There are probably ways to explain these holes but I still wonder about them.

This was a lot of fun to watch, for the umpteenth time. I had forgotten how tightly they constructed the plot of this movie.
