starring Elliott Gould, Christopher Plummer, Susannah York
directed by Daryl Duke
102 minutes
Miles Cullen (Elliott Gould), the vault manager at a bank in Toronto, gets wise to the fact that a mall Santa is getting ready to rob the bank. It gives him an idea to steal some money and let the mall Santa take the blame. It seems like a good idea. Everything goes smoothly except that the mall Santa gets away and discovers that the amount he took is considerably less than what he is accused to stealing.
Harry Reikle (Christopher Plummer), the mall Santa, starts to harrass Miles just as Miles is starting a relationship with Julie (Susannah York) one of his coworkers. Miles manages to get one over on Harry and get him sent to prison but not for armed robbery. Things don't work out between Miles and Julie but then he meets Elaine, who may not be everything she claims to be.
Thoughts
John Candy has a small part in this movie as one of the bank's employees.
Christopher Plummer wears eyeliner throughout this film such that when he shows up at the end disguised as a woman I couldn't help but laugh.
This was as good as it sounded it might be. The plot has plenty of twists and turns. It really kept me guessing as to how things would turn out in the end. Not all the stunts were expertly executed. There are a few inconsistencies in the movie but I was having so much fun watching this movie that I was happy to overlook them.
