Un Village Français 5.09

Un acte de naissance
or A Birth Cerificate

Daniel is thrown in the same cell as Marcel, after he's been tortured some. Marcel does his best to help his brother but they wind up arguing a little bit. Marcel asks him about Gustave and tells Daniel about Tequiero's father.

Raymond talks Marie into having sex with him, away from the group. Antoine goes looking for Marie and spots them and what they are doing. Antoine is cold towards Marie, when everyone finally gets back together to continue practicing the play. He decides that they should have a parade instead of a play. Marie is against it but most of the others seem to like the idea, except for Claude.

Heinrich goes to see Hortense. Gustave answers the door. Gustave knows who Müller is and it shows on his face and in the way he treats the German officer. Heinrich gets a call from his assistant just after Gustave gets his hands on Müller's pistol. Müller taunts the boy and takes the gun away from him before leaving.

Jeanine Schwartz hears from Chassagne that there is an informant among the Resistance in Villeneuve. She passes the traitor's name along to someone whom she knows will pass it along to the Resistance. The informant is dead before long, as she learns from Chassagne.

The plans for the parade go forward as Antoine works out the details of how to deal with the Germans and the Vichy militia.

Müller frees Daniel from jail. Müller got him out by saying that he was informant for the Germans. Daniel doesn't know how to feel after he returns home to Hortense, Gustave, and Tequiero.

Marguerie is tasked with getting into the German barracks, which is housed in part of the school. She needs to disable the military radio so that the Germans can't get word out about the parade, after it begins, on Nov 11. Jules is out of town so she has to get Lucienne to help her.

Antoine and Schwartz and some of the others go back to the sawmill to get some vehicles. They overhear Eliane talking on the phone to Marchetti. She has just found her birth certificate. She needs it if they are going to get married. She spots them and takes off running but Antoine shoots her in the back as she is running away. Marchetti gets there later just before she dies.

Thoughts

Marchetti only shows up in the final scene in this episode. Jules is nowhere to be found.

There's something I'm missing. Daniel must have two homes because the place where he got arrested is not the same place as the one where Hortense and the boys are currently staying. That would explain where Gustave and Tequiero walked a few episodes back, from one residence to another.

Does Marie still have a thing for Raymond? Was she just eager to get some? What is going on between her, Raymond, and Antoine?

This parade idea sounds pretty crazy. I think that it will probably work out but I think that someone is going to get killed by the Germans or the Vichy militia. My gut says that it will be Claude.

I thought that either Claude or Marguerite was a traitor, an informant for the Germans, but now I'm thinking that they are not but that probably both of them are going to get killed before the end of the season.

The scenes with Marcel and Daniel in prison were tough to watch. There wasn't as much rehearsal of the play as there was in the last episode but I'm still kind of over it. Antoine still strikes me as a hothead. I wonder how Claude's death will strike him? I'm still convinced that Chassagne will not survive the end of the season. I wonder how his death will strike Jeanine? I wonder how Marguerite's death will strike Lucienne? Will she feel bad about the way she treated her?

This was a very moving episode. I'm ready for more.
