I have seen this movie before. I have also seen the French film that this one was based upon, La Cage aux Folles (1979). I recall enjoying the original very much. My recollection is that it is better than The Birdcage but it has been decades since I last saw the original.
I enjoyed The Birdcage this time around. It is better than I feared it might be. It is very funny at times but it also drags a bit in the early going. The highlight of the movie is the dinner at which the two sets of parents meet.
