Colony in Space - Part Six
The Doctor kicks the device out of the Master's hand before the villain can use it to kill Jo Grant. The Doctor and the Master are apprehended by the primitives and taken inside the city. The Master reveals that he already knows a great deal about the natives. They have a great weapon which could be used to blackmail worlds across the universe.
Caldwell frees Jo from the containment unit. He and Morgan take her back to Dent. The colonists are forced to get on their spaceship. Jo is ordered to get on with them. Dent doesn't care that their spaceship isn't safe enough or that Jo isn't one of the colonists.
The Master uses a gas bomb to escape from the primitives. He and the Doctor find the great weapon. The Master tries to talk the leader of the primitives into joining forces with him but it senses that the Master isn't honest about his intentions.
Winton hides out, doesn't board the spaceship, and attacks the guard who was left behind. Caldwell hides Jo in one of the land vehicles and together they head to the city of the primitives.
The Doctor, following instructions from the primitives leader, activates the weapon's self destruct mechanism. The Doctor and the Master get outside just the city in time to avoid getting blown up and to witness a firefight between the colonists, who escaped from the spaceship with help from Winton, and the ICM guards. This time most of the guards are killed and the colonists come out on top.
Caldwell decides to stay with the colonists and help them. The Master escapes in his TARDIS. The Doctor and Jo return to Earth in the Doctor's TARDIS. They arrive just moments after they left.
Thoughts
I could be wrong but Dent just drops out of the story after a point, before the final battle between the colonists and the ICM guards. Morgan is there for the fight and gets killed but I didn't see any sign of Dent. I didn't mention it in my summary but Ashe takes off in the spaceship by himself. It blows up immediately after launch. He knew that would happen and yet he did it anyway. This makes no sense to me.
The best part of this final episode is the Master. I love how passionate he gets about the super weapon. He goes to great length to tell the Doctor all about it. He really tries to sell the Doctor on teaming up with him but the Doctor is a little too smart to fall for his old chum's sales pitch. I love how frustrated the Master gets when the Doctor turns him down. It's pretty obvious based on his past behavior that he doesn't mean what he says but still it was great fun watching him try.
Not bad. I think this is my favorite story, so far in this season. It doesn't hold a candle to some of my favorites from the Tom Baker era but it is pretty good for the Pertwee era or maybe I should say the Delgado era.
