The Outer Limits (1963) 1.01

The Galaxy Being

starring Cliff Robertson, Jacqueline Scott, Lee Philips
directed by Leslie Stevens

Alan Maxwell (Cliff Robertson) owner of radio station KXKIV makes contact with a being from another galaxy hours before he is supposed to attend a banquet honoring him. Carol Maxwell (Jacqueline Scott), Alan's wife. insists that he go to the banquet.

Alan reluctantly leaves the Galaxy Being behind but leaves the channel open through which they are communicating. The disc jockey who is left behind to broadcast, while Alan and everyone else from KXKIV are at the banquet, boosts the signal of the radio station. The Galaxy Being is pulled through to Earth.

It wrecks all kind of damage. The disc jockey is killed, as are several other people. Alan finds out about what's going on. He reasons with the Galaxy Being but by then the Army has been called in to deal with it. The general in charge has strict orders to kill the Galaxy Being.

Carol gets shot by the general when she tries to tell everyone to back off. The Galaxy Being heals her, destroys the radio tower, says farewell to Alan, and then cuts the signal thus ending its existence on Earth.

Thoughts

Cliff Robertson is the only actor from this episode that I recognized.

Director Leslie Stevens was also the creator and executive producer of The Outer Limits. This is the first of four episodes that he directed and the first of three episodes that he wrote. He was also the co-creator of Buck Rogers in the 25th Century.

This is an interesting episode. It goes places but I found the ending to be a bit lackluster. There were consequences, people were killed, but it seemed like that was forgotten by the time the episode ended. Also forgotten by most seems to be Alan's role in bringing the Galaxy Being to Earth.
